Drone pedal?
Since I finally got a steady job I've got some extra cash for fx.
Basically, what I'm looking for is a pedal to create some drone/soundscapes with. Got anything to recommend?

You just need a passive bass, a tube amp, and a metric ton of marijuana and Sabbath worship.

Re: Drone pedal?
That's a tricky one...
Well droney tones alot of the time I find come from good flangers.
If you could find one (damn rare) an ADA Flanger is really good and can do some messed up noises http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBJDTPL-RZ0 around 4:45 he does some trippy tones
But I guess failing that an Electric Mistress might be nice.
Or there are Phasers which I suppose technically in a way are just a slower Flanger in their wave form, just lacking the many repeats, just have to find one with the largest degree.
Then I guess the better option would be a synth, and with that i'd say the Electro Harmonix Micro Synth, all analog too which is nice and you can swell the notes in to create a kinda drone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFaSZnJe ... feature=iv
And idea of what you want woulda be useful, like a particular song that has such a drone i'm kinda stabbing in the dark but I think I have a pedal in mind, just can't think of it's name right now.

Re: Drone pedal?
I'm honestly not quite sure what I want myself.
I suppose it should be something etheral, dreamy yet still be able to do some nasty things.
Band I dig are Sunn O))), Earth (big influence), Om, Six Organs of Admittance, Boris, ...
Try to find the song Six Organs of Admittance - River Of Transfiguration. That's bascally something I'd like to do.
But I suppose I'd need more than one pedal?
I'm trying to avoid computer programs to create those sound though.

Re: Drone pedal?
How about something like the EH Pog II it has a swell/attack function and octaves so can get some good drones I recon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFxaIAP5mjA
MXR Blue Box for a nasty octave drone tone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUzMMuNbOMw
Or definitley the Ebow that gives a lovely drone/sustain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwq0i6jP7dQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKy--or2l84
Or there are swells like the BOSS SG-1 but they aren't ideal really
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPUt4GUH ... re=related
A nice combo of flangers and the EH Pog II or Ebow could get you something nice I recon

Re: Drone pedal?
I do most of my drones with SM's chaos mode and some long verb from Yamaha fx500.
Add a good tremolo pedal before the reverb, and there you have it.
TBD is also one of my fave pedals for that kind of sound...I just put the oscillation knob on minimum, and it shrieks like hell, but it's VERY responsive to picking/attack,and all kind of crazy shit happens along the way.
p.s.
If you like Earth,Soda Meiser will do the job,no doubt.Just flip the chaos switch, adjust the volume on yr guitar to get the best out if it,and you're ready to go!

Re: Drone pedal?
Thanks for the replies guys, I'll be able to be more specific about the sound I want when I get home rom work. My internet access is pretty limited so I can't post and links to youtube etc.
I found another helpfull site for this though:

Re: Drone pedal?
Oh just thought of something that might help, A band I quite like called Mono (dunno if anyones heard of them) that are quite droney http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1B00qU5uc58 (it's post rock so the song builds up for a longggg time lol) And I think the guitarist uses 2 BOSS DD-3 Delays running into eachother to get his drone with a fuzz

Re: Drone pedal?
2 delays can be awesome. And I'm thinking about a volume pedal to for a swelling effect.
A DE fuzz for some glitchy noise, and maybe a looper of some sort might come in handy.

Re: Drone pedal?
a bit expensive if you use it exclusively for droning, but the EHX HOG has a hold function where you can swell and hold a note through the HOG's wet signal (using the exp pedal) and then play over it with the dry signal. The held note can be altered by the different faders so you can make it sound like you have a full organ underneath you melody/lead lines...plus, you can mess with the held note using the filter and make some pretty cool filter sweeps with the drone. Really cool feature and one of my favorites on the HOG, but as I said it'd be quite expensive if that's all you use it for.

Re: Drone pedal?
When I think of drone, I think of a few different things.
First of all, any of the Boss pedals that have a hold mode would be cool. DF-2, SYB-5, DD-6/7 off the top of my head
Also, something like a Thumping Double Squaresnakes, where you can just tune it to a pitch, and then let it drone on while you play over it.
Or, the Moog Freqbox, if you turn off the sync, and set the mix around like 5, you can do some drone stuff. When you play a note, the synth will play a droning note on whatever you have the freq set to, while your dry tone will still come through at the pitch you played, and you can keep playing over it.

Re: Drone pedal?
duh, the truly beauutiful disaster when oscillating can create some cool drones, especially if you stack it with some modulation
