Oh, wow, I just assumed everyone would know. Must be a Canadian thing.
Gordon Downie, frontman for The Tragically Hip, has terminal brain cancer.

They're doing on one final tour and that is, as they say, all she wrote.
Do Americans not know this band? They are a part of the fabric of Canadian consciousness.
Canadians love them or hate them, but they have an opinion on them either way; you grow up with them.
"New Orleans Is Sinking," "Bobcaygeon," "Ahead By A Century," "38 Years Old," so many great songs...

If their bandname is legit they'll finally breakthrough worldwide after he dies and they come back as New Order.

No. CTD are the Canadian Hootie and the Blowfish. TTH are the Canadian R.E.M.aedes wrote:They're like a mellower Crash Test Dummies, right?

I know "Blowout at High Dough." But I know that from the credits to "Made in Canada" (or "The Industry" as it was syndicated to us hosers to the south).

Hm... they went through the same sort of college-indie-to-radio-indie trajectory; I'm gonna go with Reckoning REM.aedes wrote:Chronic Town / Reckoning / Murmur REM or Shiny Happy People REM?
FYI, Murmur is my favourite.

They aren't too well known here. I heard them on the Kids in the Hall movie soundtrack years ago and Poets got some TV/Radio airplay when it came out is about it. I've seen them a few times here and it's mostly Canadian expats even at the shows. Gordon's mid show rants were the best.

Once my friend went to see them and after the encore he gave her his mic. She framed it in a shadow box from Michael's with some black velvet behind it. Pretty neat-o burrito.
