How did they get that sound?

Post by Cajammo »

Hi, all!

I am trying to find the pedal/pedals that were used to create the fuzz tones on "Tighter, Tighter" by Alive and Kicking, and/or "Crimson and Clover" by Tommy James...

Can anyone help?

I'm not an expert in identifying fuzz pedals, but I do know what I like and I definitely like these sounds.

My uneducated might be Maestro FZ-1. Certainly fits within that time frame.

At least we know the trem on "Crimson and Clover" is from his Ampeg amp.

Pretty much any period fuzz will get you there, the fuzz sound is more the amp/room IMO than anything particular.

About the only one I can think of that era that wouldn't be right would be an Ampeg Scrambler...but.... :)

The BYOC model is pretty close to my cherry picked vintage clone (that I preferred over an original and RI).

I wouldn't cry if I had to use that one full-time.

 The Scrambler's a great fuzz, but will definitely not get that sound.
