Recommend me some Overdrives!

Post by Blurillaz »

As the title says, I'd like to know some overdrives, preferably with lots of bass, and that it works good with single coils. :thumb: I'm open to well, pretty much anything.

I tried one out, it's really nice, sounds great, cool graohics and expensive.

less expensive but interesting flavors.

OLC makes some interesting things and in kit form too.

Dave Barber makes lots of variations.

Cool thanks for all the replies! I think I'll go for either one of those Barber ones, a V3 OCD, or an Interstellar Overdriver. (Supreme costs too much :P)

don't know what your setup is, but I've tried both the OCD v3 and DBA IO through my rig (Twin Reverb and Super Reverb) and I MUCH prefer the OCD

I'm loving my Singing Tree a whole lot. It's pretty benign, eq wise. It's pretty open sounding, not as middley and compressed as some overdrives. It's by far my most used pedal right now.

I primarily play bass at this point, so I'm not sure my opinion is all that useful, but I use a DHA VT1 and absolutely love it.

I'm also still looking for an OD. I want one with a real British voice, that has a lot of b ite but also has an option to bump the mids for a real squishy QOTSA or orange amp kinda sound.

If it helps, my main amp is a crate v18 that is modded to be brighter. Now it sounds a little Fender-ish...

Liquid sunshine might be of some use? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZulY8zE7kM
I really like the Keeley java boost (just basically a dallas rangemaster with added tone control and cap switching) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z58dbdr6go
Give me an idea of what QOTSA tracks you mean really, those are just 2 pedals off the top of my head...

The Trotsky Drive. Pretty good classic-style overdrive. Goes from a nice boosted crunch to a smoother, gain-y drive. I know you can buy the standard version at AH. Or...

You could try to build it. I'm making one for myself in a few days, but I'm gonna make it a double and might try all Ge (trans and diodes :thumb: ).
Dude, a ball pit is not... weren't you ever a little kid? Ya know, a ball pit, with the plastic balls and you'd jump in it... it's not a gay bar!

Karaoke Party, tight lowend, sparkley highs, worked wonders with my telecaster.

Don't fall into the Germanium Mojo love (don't get me wrong they are nice for fuzz but so expensive and also it will need re biasing to get the circuit to work i'd imagine, not forgetting their leakage etc) for one NPN germaniums are harder to come by than PNP I find let alone more expensive than silicons, secondly Germanium diodes will only offer softer clipping, they wont give you a mojo tone, silicon will work fine but of course you will get softer clipping with the 1N43A due to there forward voltages etc.

You may be better at DIY than myself though but that's just my views on your plans and just want to avoid you costs.
