Paradox Effects Oniric Delay with a Gameboy and musical saw

Post by unexpectedbowtie »

Hey!

I'm Stephen, from Glasgow in Scotland; new to the forums, though I used to lurk about years ago when buying gear. I've developed an addiction for unusual effects pedals, and have put together a site recently to demo ones that I come across through instruments other than guitar.

I just stuck up a feature on this beautiful spacey delay pedal (digital, with an analogue voice) from Mexico's Paradox Effects. Demoing it with a couple of Gameboys running as synths and a musical saw. Link is below if you are interested :)

You didn't mention the delay time range, how long can the delays be ?
Do you know if it's based on the usual PT2399 or does it use something else ?

Also, pseudo-random (aleatory is another word for random) is typically used instead of random in most academic or scientific stuff because pure randomness is not easily achieved (well, not achievable at all), so the pseudo prefix means that the randomness in question is the result of some specific hardware/software/combination of both. For musical purposes it's far than enough though, it only really matters for things like cryptography, etc.

Hey, thanks!

Delay time: Good question. Bizarrely, they haven't listed a delay time in any of the specs online or on the included literature - and I didn't find any further details anywhere else. I'm also not sure what the circuit design is, but I'm in touch with them already - so will try get some answers and report back.

I was being kind of flippant with the comment about pseudo-randomness (!) I think it's pretty fascinating, especially when it relates to crypto. I'd genuinely never come across the 'aleatory' term though, so thanks for clearing that up :). Googling about failed me on that one...

They probably used "aleatory" because the word is "aleatorio" in Spanish (it's "aleatoire" in french, same for other similar european languages)...

Big fan of the Oniric! I almost sold mine, but - happily - plugged it in after it sat for a while and... :!!!:

CMO is shorthand for the forums at chipmusic.org.
