This is pretty exciting. I just watched Kraftwerk and the Electronic Revolution the other day.

I'm pumped and intrigued. Tangerine Dream isn't something that I listen often, really just have a vague knowledge of them and had to relook them up to know exactly, but I always am more into stuff when I have some info and backstory and connection with them.

I'm a die-hard fan of TD's earlier work from "Electronic Meditation" till "Hyperboria". The "Poland" concert is also a fantastic album and I even like some of their other '80s albums and a few pieces from the '90s and later works.

But I really love the albums with 20-minute-long tracks. "Zeit" is awesome, although there's barely anything happening really. "Tangram" was a revelation and changed my way of arranging music, especially when playing synthesizers. "Ricochet", "Rubycon", "White Eagle" (Mojave Plan!), "Force Majeure", "Encore", "Logos" ... so many great tunes!

But I doubt that I will find the time to watch an entire documentary film. Edgar Froese wrote a biography a few years ago, not long before he passed away ... maybe I can read that someday.

It's not for everyone. When my father gave me "Rubycon" and "Ricochet" it was "WTF?!" at first. But the more I listened to it the more I liked it.

"Exit", "Logos", "Stratosphere", "Rubycon" seems like a good approach. These are all Virgin albums. There's also a nice 2 CD collection* - "Dream Sequence" which features a lot of Tangerine Dream's Virgin years. The earlier stuff is more psychedelic. At the late '80s the sound became very commercial.

I like Phaedra. That's really the only one I spent a significant time listening to though.

I always tell people to watch this clip to start with tangerine dream. Its the coventry gig with the live album "ricochet" superimposed over it. Consequently, ricochet was not what they were playing that night, but it just looks and sounds killer.

After that i would advise listening to "The Virgin Years" It includes most of their stylistically defining and important early works with the absence of ZEIT. A lot of people say to start with ZEIT and i say those people are wrong. Its been mentioned before that there isn't a whole lot of shit going on there. Id really start with STRATOSFEAR, RUBYCON, or RICOCHET. as those are basically the condensed, iconic, TG.

This is not to discount the later stuff. Much like hawkwind, TG kept making great albums all the way up to today. For example:

ALSO WAIT ASSHOLE DIDNT I TELL YOU TO LISTEN TO TG LIKE A MILLION YEARS AGO IN THE KRAUT THREAD? ASSHOLE.
