That piece of gear that's not really very good, but has a special place in your bosom.
You've grown together, it's shaped you -- as a musician, and a human being -- and you belong to it, for better or worse.

I realized recently that my guitar is this.
Danelectro Dead on '67.

For the longest time I just assumed I would be rid of it once I had money.
But now I realize we are kin.
So instead I will replace its turrible pickguard and knobs and tuners and love it forever.

You got one of those things?

I do. Speaking of Danelectro, Danowah is that for me. I like the brootz it brings, and pedals quadruple its price just haven't made me as happy as how bad the Dano's manners are.

Most of what I do has something to do with my Timebender. I bought around the time I started playing again, and ever since I've evolved with it.

More and more I realize it's my SG, but I don't know if that only bc I love the shape. I really want to bigsbyfy it and put in some BLK TRI pups in it

Yamaha SGV300. I wouldn't call it junk though...it is a really good guitar.

I guess my old big box frequency analyzer....it's not really good but i will never get rid of it.

Either my JMC2000 or my Epiphone Telecaster, which has been the victim of countless mods, including Bass VI conversion!

Though I just got a Bronco bass in a trade and I'm quickly bonding with it. That old girl is gonna see a lot of modification this summer!

My Microkorg. I learned synthesis on it and I never fail to make interesting sounds when I sit down with it. The people who hate it don't understand it the way that I do.

I have this Squier P-Bass I bought for $50 circa 2001 to use on home recordings that I assumed I would replace with a "real" bass at some point. 15 years later I have not done that and it's still my main bass.

I really like that everyone has a signature instrument here. The Timebender is probably the only thing in my rig I wouldn't trade for anything, but I'd kinda rather have that feeling towards one of my guitars. Oh well

Also I was fucking with my garbage First Act tele copy today and started wondering how I could improve on it. It stays in tune, the neck is perfect, and the pickups sound great to me. So probably I'm going to leave this thing stock forever? I've had it for about 10 years. It looks like shit but it's worth far more to me than what it's actually worth in money cash.

Pretty much the same here. That's how I fell about my old KORG DW-8000, which has the same sort of digital waveforms as the microKORG. Gotta love DWGS! Those waveforms, although the DW-8000 has only 16, lead to very interesting sounds all the time whenever I turn it on. A few times I thought I should sell it, but it's so unique and I cannot part with it.

really terrible pink p-bass copy i got from a friend for $40
chopped up the pickguard in a manic episode, played a bunch of my first gigs on it, covered it in stickers
the thing wont break, but i have had to re-wire the jack and couple times
the neck is fat but feels the bass just feels good and simple

This muff is the second pedal that I ever bought. I loved it for a couple years and then it sat around for a long time after that. I just can't seem to bring myself to sell it. I've been using it lately and falling in love again.

So this is my dads old Fender Catalina that he bought new in the 80s.

Playability: 8.5 to 9, and tone, well, there's none to speak of. Even the pickup he installed only works when you hold the guitar at around 80 degrees (+/- 0.0005 degrees) vertically downwards. But after he died a couple years ago (even probably before then) I could never see myself losing this.

I always remember being a little kid with one of those tiny practice nylon string guitars looking at it, imagining being big enough to play a dreadnaught body. I'd brag to all my friends who played that my dad had a real fender (not knowing it was a beater worth probably less than £200 now). And then it was my first fender.

I broke the neck off a little while ago, and insisted, much to the luthiers protest about it not being worth it, that it was fixed and fully set up.

I could be playing Wembley stadium and that'd still be the acoustic I'd pull out.
