If you were going to buy a uke....
If you were going to buy a ukulele which of these would be most appealing:
1) Soprano
2) Concert
3) Soprano body with concert neck

I'm really not concerned with tenors, baritones, or other variations.
Those are not as popular as the soprano or concert.

Damn.
OK, then I'd have to go with "Concert".

My hunch is that the concert is the most popular uke today though back in the day it was the soprano.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but that's why I'm asking.

I'm not well connected to the uke market. You know me though, I like the unpopular stuff. Sopranos are cute, but I'd like something capable of producing deeper sounds. Although, this's ukes we're talking about. So, deep is kinda out of the question.

concert if you are a serious player sure but the bulk that people actually buy is still cheap sopranos, you see them in herds at large music shops, they are fun because they are so small you can take them everywhere and torment people in many and various places and settingsNelson Instruments wrote:My hunch is that the concert is the most popular uke today though back in the day it was the soprano.

Baritone first, even though that's not an option. Concert second. We may be the wrong market to be asking.

Hahaha "fit in", no it has nothing to do with fitting in, everything to do with wanting to actually sell ukes if I were to again think about getting into that market.

Yeah, ukes is a tough market. My buddy works decently high up the chain at Kala and he always admits that the money is all in the sub$200 models. Just can't move enough "nice" ones. They're looking to open a custom shop, but expect to make just a few month, and that's with major brand recognition and distribution.
I'd vote baritone as well though. Those are actually fun to play for a while. My wife has a concert and it always just entertains me until I can grab a guitar

Yeah that's the catch. It is a tough market. Ukes are probably the biggest selling item in the stringed musical instrument world BUT as with other areas it is saturated with custom builders AND cheap entry instruments.
One of the reasons I initially abandoned my flirtation with ukes was that I would be just another uke opition out there and it just didn't seem worth it.
I decided any market is only worth getting into if I can 1)offer a unique alternative and 2)offer it at a VERY competitive price.
Well I might have a unique angle on something to offer and could offer it at a competitive price but I just need to figure out which version is most worthwhile to jump in with.

Re: If you were going to buy a uke....
I think that's an even more limited market.

My friend has a 6-string ukelele-guitar. Fun for the whole family.

Looks like I'm in the minority but soprano and then concert.
