Weird/unusual/odd/small-run recommendations

Post by sssweatyauraaa »

I'm considering opening a pop-up shop at local hipster flea markets, as well as inside a record/vintage store. I'd like to only stock small company items and slightly odd stuff. So basically no Boss Ds-1s taking up space. I'll leave that stuff to Guitar Center. I'd like recommendations for small operations making more than just fuzz clones.

Fairfield Circuitry is my recommendation. Everything they make is just so exceptional, and well thought out.

If you're looking for a lower price point, Alexander pedals has been kicking some serious ass lately.

Fuzzhugger (and his modulation), heck everything around this site....

Electro Faustus, Electro Lobotomy, trogotronic...too many to list really.

I would really just look for used vintage deals...and old microphones...you're really not going to have the margin to by new a lot of the time..random, weird, used is where your appeal will be I would think. So many neat kinda forgotten pedals out there man.

Hope the cat is well.

I don't know if you'd be buying used only, but Ezhi and Aka makes really awesome pedals outside the box. Check their thread on ILF, super nice guys to talk to.

Oh hey man, you liking the misty cave? :)

Seriously everything around this site. Old DOD has some real gems you should consider, like the stereo flanger, the delays with hold etc. check B/S/T out here, most shit that gets sold is cool stuff. Pick some Fuzzhugger stuff up because those are bomb. And buy this for maximum hipsterness https://www.etsy.com/se-en/listing/2432 ... gallery_16

Awesome. I had Ezhi&aka and stuff in that realm on my mind actually. Foreign builders are a plus, because it'll bring a little more exposure and an opportunity for people to try the stuff out that'd otherwise not be able to, unless they bought outright. If I were to be able to get wholesale deals and do pop-ups, it'd be around Baltimore, but I'm also considering moving to Tampa.

In that case, check zcat out. They have a few cool things and aren't too expensive. Also, pladask elektrisk. And parasit studios. all European, all cool

I'm hoping, if/when I decide to start this to throw down some serious bucks and try to make wholesale deals with makers, try to get 2-3 pieces of each thing they make. Vintage/old for sure, but I really want to have more focus on current small builders. I really like the idea of bringing that kind of stuff to a wider set, instead of just collectors and nerds(like me). Gizmo is doing very well, thanks for asking. We really appreciate it!

Good to know that you are going to go for more wholesale stuff in the future...kinda the problem with the internet...good for builders, can be bad for the little guy retailer, you know? It was just a little unclear from the original message the way your were thinking. A good mix of vintage finds with a good margib plus some new awesome builders would be pretty neat as a little pop up.

Make Sounds Loudly, RMA, 80tape, Lightning Wave, and a lot of people in the shark tank can really be nice for short runs.

Get a couple dirty dopers and Astro phases in there and you'd already have unique stuff. I think the vintage stuff will help attract more casual pedal shoppers too.

Good luck and glad Gizmo is doing well.
