Earthbound Audio Supercollider
Anyone know the specific muff that the Supercollider is based on?

Re: Earthbound Audio Supercollider
I believe it is his own variation on the circuit. His '71 has a vintage flavor/ fuzzier/ not as high gain as the regular.

I own the '71 and its become my favorite muff fuzz pedal. I read a post where Mark said he based the '71 off a Rams Head circuit he liked from the Kitrae site. Nothing that specific on the Supercolider though, my guess is its based off of the Black Russian and then tweeked EA style. Just a guess.

It's most closely related to the NYC big muff, or at least that was the claim when they first came out and the schematic became widely available

The NYC muff huh no kidding. Those were the ones first released in 2000 I think?
Things I learned today.. just read that Fran from Frantone had helped redesign the circuit for the NYC muff pedal

Re: Earthbound Audio Supercollider
The Supercollider is based off of the Tall Font Russian then tweeked to be more aggressive and distortion like, with added mids and mass knobs.
The '71 is basically a Violet Rams Head clone, again with EA styles tweeks.
My two favorite flavor Big Muffs actually, no wonder I was drawn to these pedals.

Is that a quote?
Per Kitrack:
Per Kitrack:
So it looks like the conventional wisdom from the pedal's debut was wrong. Cool to learn that, I love my SC.The Collider was yet another modified Russian Big Muff clone (discontinued), this one a tweakable, bass guitar friendly circuit, built by Earthbound Audio in 2008. Mark at Earthbound added a Depth pot at the input stage, similar to the Focus pot in the Muskett schematic shown above. The tone section has been modified to include a 50k mid range pot at R27, a variant on the AMZ tone/presence control, allowing adjustment to the mid-range frequency. Limiting resistors at R12 and R19 are half the size of the resistors in a Russian Big Muff, and feedback resistors at C12 and R15 are 1M (1000k), around double the size of a Russian Big Muff. This creates a lot more drive, crunch, and gain in each clipping stage than a traditional Russian BMP.

Should I get a Supercolider and why? I'm not into the Gilmour muff tone at all.
I hesitate between the SC or the new Wren and Cuff White ELK (small footprint).
I'm not much into muff.

Re: Earthbound Audio Supercollider
Supercollider fucking rules. I bought an older one from conky some years back. I love it and it's one of my favorite dirts. If you're worried about the "gilmour muff sound", I don't think that's going to be an issue. Its a huge thing gain fire breather. A very distortion like fuzz, which is my favorite. I would normally regret having sold it, but I sold it to the other guitar player in my band, so I still get to enjoy it every week at least and all that it brings to our sound.

I also have the '71 version. The EQ controls are pretty extensive and can be used to dial out "metallic" characteristics and bring the thunder. There is also the LED clipping option, which deviates from typical muff textures.

Re: Earthbound Audio Supercollider
I've had three Supercolliders and am now happily on my fourth which is a Purple 71' with LED clipping. I once compared it to a bunch of clones my buddy made and the 71 definitely sounded closest to the Rams head.
The LED clipping option adds a new flavor to the Muff sound, more amp-like. With the 71 I can go from a smooth muff sound in the silicon mode and kick in the LED mode for a louder more aggressive sound. If you aren't into the Gilmour sound then the standard Supercollider might be more appealing to you.sylnau wrote:Should I get a Supercolider and why? I'm not into the Gilmour muff tone at all.

Re: Earthbound Audio Supercollider
Had a SC years ago and loved it.
Was my main heavy dirt for about a year. But when my main guitar went from Tele Custom to Danelectro baritone, it did not work that well with the Dano, so sold it.
Kinda regret it, should probably have spent more time tweaking.
