CIOKS Adam or DC5?

Post by waltdogg »

This is a pretty TGP/TB question but I cant decide between an Adam or DC5. My board is a PT-nano so those are pretty much the only power supplies available for me to choose from AFAIK, aside from continuing to use my tuner as a power brick and daisy chaining out of it with a 1 SPOT as my power supply. I was originally interested in the DC5 for it's 9/18V output because I was using an OCD and wanted to get the extra headroom at 18V but I've since replaced my OCD with a Fuck AND Mini which are both 9V only. The Adam and DC5 have a 9/12V output which will accommodate my ABY that handles 9-12V, although I am unsure if there is any benefit of increasing the voltage to that pedal. I'm leaning toward the Adam now since it is $50 cheaper than the DC5, I don't need 5 outputs, and I no longer need 18V. Am I overthinking this?

DC5

You might not need the extra outlet or 18v now but maybe in the future you might. Better safe than sorry, right

Yes. :p

I'd go with the Adam since it's expandable with the other units they sell (if I'm reading that right). Either way you should be happy. That CIOKS stuff is great.

DC5 would leave you with options in case you swap something out. :idk:

Unless it is a buffered ABY switcher, the only thing the voltage is doing is powering the LEDs I guess. I decided to stop wasting a 9v outlet on my ABY recently, although without lights it's harder keeping track of how it's set...

Get whichever you like best/can afford? I have a DC10. It's nearing its limits now I think, powering around 15 pedals.. but with extra Y-split power cables (Split Flex, they call them), the only thing really limiting you is the unit's, or maybe each output's mA rating. Powering two dirt pedals from one of Adam's 100mA outputs should be no problem, for instance. Or three fuzzes, I just remembered they have a 3-plug cable as well. They do cost a fair bit extra, though.

My ABY is a Radial Twin City, which has a buffer. That's interesting that you can get all that with just the 10 outlets...

Do you want to stay at that size board? If so, get the DC5. If you think there's the possibility that you might add on some pedals without *switching out* pedals, get the Adam, since it's expandable.

you have tuner, fuck, mini and aby box, right?
Adam gives enough power, if you buy a high current pedal too, if you add a fifth pedal, just get one of their split flex.

No, there's no amp in there - tone fairies and feedback goblins live inside this box.

Considering that Cioks hasn't had the decency to email me back about fixing my power supply or offer any support, I wouldn't buy anything from them. Ever. They have no communication skills and do not give a shit. I've talked to Poul several times and he doesn't care and offers no help or support. I will never buy a new Cioks product.

Yea but unfortunately they are the only ones making "thin" power supplies that will fit under the non tilted pedaltrain boards.

But will you buy a used / known-broken one?
