PGS has removed the Alter Ego X4* from their product list, and with Musikmesse only 2 months away, it makes me wonder if TCE has alerted distributors that something new is in the works. Another possibility could be that they're getting ready to start carrying the Triple Flashback in its place.
The Triple Flashback has been exclusive to Musician's Friend and its sister companies, but so was the Alter Ego for a time, before it became available to other TC Electronic retailers.
As intriguing as a Triple Alter Ego could be, I'd really rather see them develop new algorithms and ditch the onboard looper to reduce its cost. I also wish they'd improve the presets/parameters. It'd be nice to save tempos along with pot placement. Another thing that would be great would be a multi-head delay or a blank box, where you could just edit and download 20 or more of your favorite delay engines.
*The Alter Ego V2 (small box) is back in stock for $99 however.

It probably also bears noting that the X4 hasn't been in stock since around Christmas when PGS did their holiday clearance for $149. It seems like 2 months would be enough time to restock this. Earlier this month it was still in their system, but now it's completely absent from their delay directory.

The looper doesn't really add much in terms of cost and there are some people who insist on it (I'm not one).
Realistically they need to come out with something that's not tiny crippleware with one preset to pique my interest at all.

D2 in pedal format with a plethora of LFO waveform options, 2 delay lines that can be series or parallel, and an effects loop in and out for the repeats. Also nail the 2290 sound. Then you'll have a pedal to go nuts over.
