Small mixer with AUX/FX out+in?
Hey guys!
I need a small mixer for shows. The main purpose is to send the singer's vocals through a Headrush for looping, so it needs to have AUX/FX out+in, and obviously a good (or at least clean) sounding mic preamp is greatly appreciated. I'll also probably put my synth and ipod/phone through the mixer (for backing tracks since I got sick of carrying my computer), but that is less important.
The Peavey PV6 V2 seems great, I don't know how it sounds. I don't really want something as big as the Mackie 802VLZ4, but I'll go for that if it's the best sounding option under $200.
The only other thing I'm considering is to just get a Yamaha AG03-MIKU basically just to use as a mic preamp, then send the Headrush's output straight to the house PA.

Behringer Xenyx 802? I haven't used it but saw a show once where a girl was running her vox into this on a small pedal board into a few strymons and then the outs of the strymons went to other inputs on the 802 instead of just the fx loop return. sounded pretty sweet.

Mackie also has the more recent Mix5/Mix8. Quality is probably not as good as the VLZ series but they're cheap and small.

Thanks for the input, guys!
But using the other inputs on the mixer is a good idea. I suppose I can just use the effects out on the Headrush (or dry-kill on other stuff) and run that to a second input on the mixer!
A producer friend of mine had a Xenyx 1002 and hated it, and they have the same preamps so I'm wary of the 802.TOMKAT_BKLYN wrote:Behringer Xenyx 802? Given how cheap those are, it might be worth it to get a Mix5 and use it like the girl TOMKAT saw. I'd probably end up wanting something better in the future, but the Mix5 is so portable that it's hard to turn down.oscillateur wrote:Mackie also has the more recent Mix5/Mix8. Yeah, well, my bad but the Mix5 has no aux sends
. You'll need the 8 for that. Still, you'll have a hard time finding something smaller with proper aux send/returns...

peavey pv series is straight. solid mixer. definitely up there w/ the mackies.
alesis multimix 6 has fx loop i think too
also could look for some older tapco's or just older mixers. fx loops were more standard on everything in the 90s. i know i've seen some smaller mixers w/ them on there. might be able to scoop one on the cheap.

Oh that Tapco looks really nice! A knob for each aux out channel and so cheap :ODr. Sherman Sticks M.D. wrote:heres one for 40...http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tapco-by-Mackie ... SwKtlWtKQA
11 years makes me a little nervous though. I might prefer to get something new (from a company that I can still send it back to if there's a problem).
I think I'll try to nab the Tapco when the auction is about to end, and if that fails try to go for the Mix8 or the PV6. I should head to a store and try those out.

Someone snapped up the Tapco, so I went for a discounted display model Mackie Mix8. Thanks for the advice, everyone! I'll still keep an eye at at gear stores for old good quality mixers though.

I piced up a Behringer 802 for this today. It's fine, just a bit fucky with levels/feedback so you gotta keep an eye on interface output volume, mixer volume, channel volume, aux volume and pedal volume all at once. Bit of a balancig act.
That said, running everything through the Warped Vinyl and then blending it in has added a whole new dimension to my sound. Awesome.
