I'm also wondering if an EQ pedal would be a good alternative to a buffer... Something like an Earthquaker Tone Job which is true bypass, but I could dial in more treble or whatever.

buffer pedal suggestions
So I've got 14 pedals on my board currently, and I'm thinking of getting a buffer. I've got the dull tone/treble loss/flabby bass/sounds like there's a blanket covering the speakers thing kind of going on. Mainly it's my amp's distortion that sounds weak. I definitely hear an improvement in my amp distortion tone when I play straight through the amp, than when I play it through the pedals. Standard practice would be put a buffer first in line, which would be fine with me, if not for my fuzz pedals... Placing a buffer in front of my wacky fuzz pedals, just screws up their sound too much. Anyone have success placing a single buffer at the end of their signal chain, or at least after fuzzes? I'm hoping that one of those tiny micro buffers would do the trick for me. I'm also interested in the Empress Buffer+ for its advertised noise filtering capabilities. I'm also thinking of getting a noise gate pedal, but if I could have a successful buffer/noise gate combo in one small pedal, that would be great.
I'm also wondering if an EQ pedal would be a good alternative to a buffer... Something like an Earthquaker Tone Job which is true bypass, but I could dial in more treble or whatever.
Not sure if that would be better or worse than a buffer.

Re: buffer pedal suggestions
I almost always play with a Klon/klone on at the end of the chain.
Also, I've been talking to sylnau about the Stone Deaf PDF-1. I recommend that pedal a lot as well. A buffer is active when the pedal's on.

Straight up I built a Klon for laughs and now I can't live without that buffer. I even built a Klon buffer into another overdrive in case I felt like swapping out the Klon.

I've been looking hard at the little saturnworks buffer/splitter dealio. I've been using my rangemaster for this purpose forever but I'm liking it more true clean or real nasty lately. Less of the in the middle stuff.
But I do really want to try a klone

I've heard the buffer in the tuner Korg dt-10 is kick ass, so if you don't have a tuner already that could swat two flies in one whip (swedish saying, and I don't endorse the killing of birds with stones, seems quite barbaric imo)

How about getting two birds stoned at once?Brandsmannen wrote:I've heard the buffer in the tuner Korg dt-10 is kick ass, so if you don't have a tuner already that could swat two flies in one whip (swedish saying, and I don't endorse the killing of birds with stones, seems quite barbaric imo)

That sounds way better. "Get two birds stoned with one hit" is my new go-to saying in these scenarios now

Re: buffer pedal suggestions
I have a pedal projects Bufferlo stuck to the underside of my board post dirt and I've been happy with the results. It's tiny and out of the way.
