Hi,
my big muff does funny scratching noises when i turn the knobs, so i thought it was time to clean the pots. Unfortunately, i have never done that before and have absolutely no idea how to do that.
I began putting off the three knobs and cleaned those bases they were sitting on. There is a picture below. If someone pointed out the other parts i need to clean, i would be very thankful.

I used electronics spray cleaner (available at hardware stores, radio shack, etc). Spray down into the pot shafts and let it sit for a minute and then turn the knobs back and forth for a minute. This has worked for me!

I would avoid spraying down the shaft if you can help it, that's where the mechanical lubricant lives and it'll change the feel of the pot.
Plus, the actual resistive element (that is actually being noisy) is pretty far removed from that point, so you have to flush like a motherfucker to get fluid there.
Looking at the pot from the back you should be able to see a gap in the rear shell where the three soldering points protrude, spray into that gap as it allows access to the wiper arm/resistive track directly.
Furthermore, you want to use a spray that will leave/deposit a lubricant so that wiper doesn't become a point of friction that will wear the resistive track off. I feel safe using most anything bearing silicone, but prefer Caig.
IF you also do service on tube amps, please note that the silicone bearing stuff is what you do NOT want to use on sockets, and to further complicate things SOME stuff formulated for carbon tracks can adversely affect conductive plastics, though I think the Russian Big Muff does not suffer from that weakness.

That's correct! And the magic word is: Tuner spray.
