loopers and digital delays

Post by decomposing »

so I've been on a quest to get the right loopers and delays on my board as far as digital goes
and have an akai e2, smmh and ct5 right now as far as that
and wondering if I should just ditch the smmh and/or akai e2 for the new ehx loopers and maybe a strymon for digital delay?
so many choices now?

Strymon makes a dope delay. Line 6 makes a dope looper. Use em together and forget your worries!

i bought an E1 HEADRUSH when they first came out. I sold it recently (i wasn't using it), and now I've gone to replace it, I sure realise how good it was/is.

In terms of delay: Do you want something that does just digital delay and maybe tap tempo, but no extra stuff - presets?

Depends on how much you want to spend too. Timefactor is a great all around delay. Good digital delay and the looper is awesome but I imagine, regarding the looper, you want a separate pedal so as to use the delay and looper together. You can't do that with the Timefactor, you can with the Strymon Timeline. I haven't played/owned a TL. Never wanted to drop the money. You can get Timefactors for around $200-250 with some luck.

I can see ditching the E2. It's a good delay but big without the payoffs for such a big box. SMMH is really cool, can do a lot of stuff.

Yeah the e2 is cool with both delay and looper to switch between
The smmh is crazy town that sounds great

Kind of want the new ehx small loopers and maybe a tc delay? But the akai is easy to use. But big.
But I still want a hog and that's huge so... Three boards?!

yeah that was why I was keeping the e2
so many great live bands still using them
and they're easy to use
limited space
but guess it'll stay as a second or main

ILF has led you to the correct answer.

Nothing against Strymon, but for the money I'd personally rather get two less pricey delay peds instead of an El Cap :idk:

There's tons of options out there, it's hard for anyone else to tell you what's gonna work best for your taste/style/rig/etc...:idk:

Fwiw, my personal lean and mean cost effective approach: ES-2 for basic analog delays, Ditto X2 for easy looping on the fly, and maybe soon a Digitech Obscura for more analog-ish delays and faux tape delays, as well as reverse delays. A smmh seems tempting too, too bad it's just a little too big for my board :s

Aside from the awesome looper and maybe a couple other tricks the DL4 does, the Delaylab would get my vote when it comes to affordable all-in one delay contraptions. Close second: DD-20.

If I were after decent tape emulation, I'd look for an Empress tape delay or a Boss RE-20.

Delaylab is cool for having a couple effect-y looper modes available, but also huge. Digitech/Hardwire DL-8 has solid delay modes and basic looper in a relatively compact package, but a lot of folks don't like the switch.

I haven't spent enough time with it yet but I just got the Source Audio Nemesis delay and my initial impressions are that it sounds better than both my Timeline and DD500. It is easier to use. It has 24 presets and i like about 80% of them. It has every feature you could want. It is going to be up gradable by a Neuro App which is basically an app where you can change parameters but is also a community of Nemesis owners who can share their made presets as well and you can save them onto your app and load them onto your Nemesis. It has send/return loop, trails, hold, tap tempo, sub divisions, etc etc etc.... So far it's incredible especially for the $299 asking price.

Hot Balls! That Nemesis really looks like it could throw the Timeline off the board, even though I love it.
I call dibs on that one!

And hope they will be released to the normal market soon. Until now they've only been available through the Source Audio store, right? Or is there a secret stash I could get my fingers on somewhere? The haven't made their way to the EU yet.
