Best and worst purchase, plus best pedal of 2015

Post by UglyCasanova »

What pedal that you aquired this year blew you away? What pedal blew chunks? What was the best pedal produced in 2015?

Best purchase: MASF Raptio
- Game changer. Rhythmical glitches and the sweetest sounding 'hold' function I've heard. From subtle to over-the-top, and turning the main knob in both modes is a blast and can help create new and inspiring textures. Doubles as a tasty booster! Small footprint. iRerror's secret weapon.

Worst purchase: Dwarfcraft Devices Wizard of Pitch
- Although a lot of fun, the boost was way too noisy. I tired to love it, but alas, I could not.

Best pedal of 2015: Industrialectric 4046-M

- A work of absolute genius. So many sounds. I mean, it's the BitQuest of Synth/PLL pedals. Two in's and out's, with endless patchings and pairings with other pedals. Videogame sounds, cocked wah, thrashy riffage, dying fuzz, swells of oscillation, bleeps/bloops, 80's synth leads, drone, rythm machine, then you add three modes of ringmod/bitcrushing/arpeggiator... impossible to demo and equally impossible to hate! TOO MANY SOUND, SO MUCH ADVENTURE!

Honorable mentions:
Cooper FX AARP
Seppuku FX Hysteresis
RMA Dirty Doper

Let's hear 'em, folks! :!!!:

Worst purchase: Keeley Absolüte Würst

Keeley's idea of the absolute worst and my idea of the absolute worst are absolutely not the same thing.

Not that it's a bad sounding pedal, it's just not as "bad" as I'd hoped. I'm also pretty sure I'm the only one who bought one. So, Keeley, if you're reading this, when you're sick of looking at 'em sit in your warehouse, send 'em all to me.

I'll stack the fuck out of 'em until they truly sound the Absolüte Würst!!! :!!!:

Pedal of the year: Fulltone SSTE echoplex ep-3 clone. lots of great features on this one

Best Purchase: SS/BS Buzzz

It's all of my favorite fuzz sounds in one pedal. In my opinion Brian always nails it with fuzz in general, but the Buzzz is incredible. Many boners to be had, for sure.

Worst Purchase (Trade): DOD Phasor 201 Reissue

Sounded like absolute crap through my rig. Listed it on Reverb the day I received it.

Best of 2015: I don't think any of my pedal purchases were new introductions in 2015, but the 4046-M is enticing as all fuck.

Shit. Luckily, I keep track of everything I purchase and sell in my phone notes.

Worst purchase: Digitech Stereo Jamman looper
Never used it. Sold it without a power supply (cause I didn't get one with it either, mind you) and the dude buying it got super fuckin pissed at me. Overall a bad experience.

Best purchase: shit. Last year i bought my real gems (actually, that was when I got serious about pedally things at all. Looked at last years list of shit I bought. The second delay I owned was apparently my memory loss), and this year I've flipped about everything cool. Went through a particle, Echo dream 2, cyber psychic, mind warp, bought a bitquest that is heading out, same with Geiger counter and misty cave. I've just played around with so much cool shit this year, and I've really enjoyed it. My best purchase in terms of a new found love is probably my Fuzzhugger Suneater Oscillator though. Made me expand from the usual big muff circuits and 2016 I'll try as many other fuzz circuits I can (there is an embarrassing amount I haven't touched)

Best Pedal 2015
Made me think... Have I even played something that just came out this year?? The newest edition bitquest, does that count?

Best purchase: Stone Deaf PDF-1. Immediately became my secret weapon to great tone, clean or fuzzy.

Worst: infanem Improbability Drive. Not bad as such, I just did not bond with it at all, couldn't make it work for me.

Best Pedal Purchases of the Year:

Prescription Electronics Depth Charge
Digitech Bass Whammy (Fucking love this thing!!!)
Amptweaker Swirl Pool
Dr. Scientist Heisenberg
Dan W. Civil War Muff
Boss DD500

Worst Purchases-

Honestly there weren't that many that I can recall? There were a few pedals I didn't jive with but nothing I'd say that sucked or I hated. Soooo. Pretty good fucking year for gear IMO.

You know what! I take that back! The MASF Wata Fuzz was my best and worst purchase. It sounded fucking terrible but made me a ton of money.

hard to pick a worst. I bought 2 new Gojira pedals last year, so it's only been uphill from there  of all the things I tried this year, if I didn't get any recordings done with it, I at least flipped for a small profit. most underwhelming was easily the Misty Cave, tho. (also lots of really stupid decisions that left me piss poor for a while or with overdraft fees  )

best purchase(trade): fully decked Prophecysound Systems Infinitphase mkii  I'm a damn fool for trying to sell it at one point.
runner up: Korg KP-3, got it at a steal and took care of my glitch gas :)
and of course Dan W's Osoiwexewioso (ultimate muff)

best pedal of 2015: Snazzy FX Divine Hammer. almost got rid of this one, too..dumb stuff. thing is just incredible.
i'm glad i can call you a friend. even if i'll never see you again

Don't think I have played any pedals that came out in 2015 yet. Some should be mine soon tho.

Best Pedal I Got This Year: Idiotbox Blower Box. I mean, I got so many pedals this year but holy fuck why did I never love Rats this much before? Whenever I plug it in I jist write ig stoner rock riffs for days and I love it.

"Worst": none, I only got good pedals this year. The three that disappointed me the most were the superego, which I love but its auto mode is bad with bass/hard to trigger accurately, the 141G, which I love and use constantly, but is more mid scooped than I normally want, and the megalith clone I got, which used sockets for the transistors and one fell out and due to being a fucking idiot who needed it working then and there I used super glue when I should have waited a day to just get access to a soldering iron. Most of these stories are "my own damn fault".

BEST:
Rochambeau Dirty Doper - The most toothsome (and customizable, and visually appealing...) fuzz I've ever seen. Dude is brill.
Seppuku Kompakt Kaset - Amazing pedal, looking forward to warping more sounds and putting this on my tabletop rig :snax:

ESSENTIAL
BOSS EQ and a DOD Death Metal. What would I do without these two?

WORST:
DBA Echo Dream 2 - Hate it. The modulation is mildly interesting, but the feedback sounds like ass, all thin and clangy. If they had made it with a tap tempo and 2 ins and outs, it would be usable, but as it is, it's totally not my echo dream. I'll try trading it in the B/S/T in 2016.

Best: dd-500, fucking weird delays for dayyyyys. Doesn't try too hard to sound like tape, can have a really fantastic character if set right. Infinite ways to set up.

Worst: MASF Raptio. Twice. Maybe I'm unlucky? I don't even run my signal too hot? How do I manage to break two of them? Jesus Christ. I'm trying the Charlie Foxtrot as soon as I find one used. Would buy it with the stupid prymax coupon but Fuck them without calling back the next day.

I'm not buying many pedals these days, I have everything I truly need and then some.

Best purchase: Roland Bee Baa clone (proper, with gnarly nasty boost). Oh, Bee Baa, I've forgotten how much I missed you after a decade or so of not having one around. Took some scrounging to find one without a "reimagined" circuit on the treble booster - I liked it the way it was, thanks!

Worst purchase: Don't regret any of them, but I do my research! Could technically put the BYOC Scrambler here, but it's a fine, fine pedal (and within striking distance of my reference clone that beat out two OG ones). I thought I'd use two at a time. Then I got the Bee Baa again...and.... Next time I get a wild hair up my ass, I do have two though!

Honorable mention: Boss RE-20. 95-98% of my real big box SE in a "no warmup time, no head cleaning or maintenance" package is a thing to behold. Fake Space Echo into real one....oh, Calgon, take me away.

Best of 2015: Honestly didn't see anything newly released that jumped out at me and said "Hello, sailor" on new products. I have so many things and rack units as well that pedal-sized recreations of them just don't...scream at me. I'd put the Boss DD-500 here...if it had a fucking PC editor. But no. Fuck you, Roland, and I love my Boss/Roland megaconglomerate stuff.

Best purchase of 2015 wasn't a pedal, it was my Science Shiv and Bastin bolt-on aluminum neck.

Worst purchase: Eventide Space. I couldn't gel with it. I guess it's just how I run my amp dirty these days
