The title of the EP my band Dharma For One released this year is Get Your Shit Together, Man.
We need to get it mixed and mastered properly, but I'm proud of the songwriting. I did all the recording etc...and I'm a TOTAL noob. It's sad.
Thing is, I used ILF as such a resource for writing and getting the sounds I wanted, and I don't think I ever posted it here. Give it a listen if you can. I'd appreciate it.

hey man, this is pretty rad. the recording is not bad at all, vocals could be a tad overwhelming at some parts in the mix but it is some good shit IMO
mind sharing how the song writing process goes? I'd love to nerd out on what you used to record as well since you did it yourself.

Re: Got my shit together
Songwriting process is pretty simple/awesome. My buddy Jake and I will have some lyrics, or a riff or some chords, and it just naturally evolves like that! Maybe add in a couple of nice Michigan beers.
I recorded everything with an Audix OM2, a Shure SM-57 and a Focusrite Sapphire into Logic.
Amps:
Verellen Skyhammer
Sovtek MIG 50
Vox AC-15 (most was done on this lil' guy)
Mini Ampeg bass amp
Guitars:
AVRI Jazzmaster
Nelson Socialite
MIJ Semi-hollow Jag
Gibson ES-137
USA Strat
Rickenbacker 4001
Bass VI
Effects:
Not even going to try to list
We even used a Moog guitar
Michigan Gaze 4 Dayz
I recorded the drums by miking the bass drum with the SM-57 and using the Audix as an ambient mic right up against the snare drum.
I had really no idea what I was doing the entire time.

Re: Got my shit together
Little edit, most of the distortion on the record is a Shoe Pedals Robert Fuzz. It just killed with the AC15. I wanted to use my vintage Op Amp muff more, but this just sounded so much better.
