Mr Black Supermoon and EQD Afterneath
Is there enough of a difference to justify getting both pedals and using them for different applications, or is there too much overlap between the two? I'd like to use the Supermoon as an always on reverb to add depth and atmosphere, and have the Afterneath to take things over the top for dramatic symphony simulation

Re: Mr Black Supermoon and EQD Afterneath
I've never tried the Supermoon but I got an Afterneath when it got released and traded it after a few weeks. It does some fun stuff but a) it doesn't do normal reverbs at all, the minimum decay time is already quite long and b) when you push it into the "fun" area, i.e. effects other reverbs don't do, you always get the same patterns. It's a very recognizable sound, which lacks variety in my opinion.
You sort of have to try one yourself to see if that's an issue for you or not. It was for me. I'm pretty sure I'd have loved that thing if I could have changed a couple of lines in the code to make it less determinist, though...

I've had both, and they're not really similar. oscillateur is spot on regarding the Afterneath, I had exactly the same experience.

Afterneath is a bit extreme and def its own thing like oscillateur said however I really enjoy using it for synths and keys. Haven't tried the super moon.

Re: Mr Black Supermoon and EQD Afterneath
I have both and use them in a similar way.
At the time I had Supermoon as my main reverb (on most of the time). Beautiful reverb. Afterneath is one of my favorite pedals and one I'll never part with. So unique and it can get really interesting really fast. The thing I like about it most are the artifacts left in the trail that almost sound similar to an old Echorec unit. Beyond that it's a full, lush and totally unique reverb. I don't use it on every song or even very often but when I do it's glorious.

Yep, EXACTLY this, Although the few times I heard it on keys it was better. Something about massive wobbly close-voiced groupings worked in it's favour.
I sold it for an Eventide Timefactor and I find the multi-tap to be able to cover similar ground for me. Hell even staggered dual mode reverse delay is easier to make work for me!
But yeah, minimal overlap between the pair! i'd still rec it as a weird verb too!

I've only tried an Afterneath very briefly, but it sounded like it does in all the demos. I think it's really cool, but it definitely has a pattern that is quite easy to distinguish unless you have it fairly early in the chain so you can mangle it further. The only pedal I can compare it with is the Wizard of Pitch. It sounds really weird, but the pattern is very simple and easy to recognize in a mix.

I just want a pedal with a frickin' warlock on it. What are my other options?
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

Paired with my el cap the afterneath is amazing! having said that as a standalone pedal is not its strongsuit its best when paired with other pedals like delays or even putting a pitch pirate in front of it to degrade the trails instant boards of canada sounds will abound!

Afterneath has been on my list for ages. Planning on putting it really early in my chain.Inconuucl wrote:Afterneath before fuzz is instant shoegaze.

Re: Mr Black Supermoon and EQD Afterneath
Dialing the Afterneath for whatever sound you've got in your head can be tricky, but I just try to let iot do it's own thing and go with whatever it dishes out. If you don't think of it as a reverb pedal, and you're open to somewhat trippy eery messy noises, the Afterneath is the shit.
Not that I'm 100% convinced I won't eventually want to replace it with a 'real' reverb pedal though, but that's probably due to my GAS more than anything else. There's just too many nice pedlols out there and too little monies on my bank account...:s
