Crazy/impossible pedal ideas

Post by Clockworker »

You know, that thing you've always wanted to see, but it requires time travel tech to make possible.

The idea I came up with earlier was this: You know stuff like plate and spring reverb, where they send a signal through one end and record the other? I was thinking about how our voices sound different to ourselves due to the reverberation in our skulls (I think from sinus cavities specifically), and got the idea of SKULLVERB! Hook a skull up like you do with spring and plate reverbs, sending the signal from one part of the skull to another, and record that. It would probably differ depending on where the start and end points are, and the brain cavity would also probably add some other sounds. I imagine it would be a very dark sounding reverb, and be the kvltest pedal on any board. I also wonder how well it would work with skulls from other animals, as well as just other bones in general. Perhaps someone could make a company that makes nothing but reverb pedals using all types of bones.

Okay, I just made this thread to share this idea.

I tried to do that with a shell, actually. Couldn't get a good sound out of it. Maybe a more talented hand could make it work, though.

The transducers parked inside your skull are like no other available, but it would be an interesting experiment nonetheless.

I'd like a pedal along the lines of the Heil Talkbox, but instead of the compression driver hanging off the end of a feeding tube it would feed the intake manifold of a small recreation of an internal combustion engine, which would be spun at an RPM that is tied to the fundamental pitch of whatever signal you happen to be feeding it, so all the valve clatter, compression cycles and articulated routing toward the exhaust ports would be in unison (or octave(s) down) with your playing.

I wonder if someone has already done a skull based impulse response reverb thingy

My impossible pedal would be one that climbed off my pedal board and hung about with me and rapped and shit

AN explosion sounds pedal. Hit your guitar's strings and the pedal literally makes war noises. Sounds like tanks rolling, shells exploding, machine gun fire, and bombs dropping. I have no idea what would achieve this but I've toyed the idea around with my pedal building friend. He's not sure where to start.

A pedal that is filled with rice, and shakes itself to the pitch of what you are playing.
Still in concept form, though. I have found that jasmine and white rice don't carry tone too well.

the LAL sandstorm can sound like explosions and static and thunder, especially when you stack it into filters and fuzzes and stuff. some fuzzes on their own make those kinda sounds when you hit open strings too.
on the other hand you could use a midi pickup and send the output to a computer with notes mapped to samples or something silly like that.
i love it when you can get normal pedals to produce sounds evocative of stuff like that though.

MangledVerb from the Space is perfect for those bombs sounds.
Hit the strings of your guitar with something really tough (dick stamp is OK) and it will make a compressed as fuck reverb sound.

The rest can be achieved with Pitchfactor's algorithms.

Hmm, well analogues of war noises is what I'd like to achieve. Not samples of noises but some circuit that's all wrong but works for these noises. Like a fucked up fuzz pedal.

Y'all need to get yourselves involved with a Fuck. That crackle is the definition of war tone.

Also sorry I've turned into such a Fuck shill lately. It's just such an amazing pedal.

The crackling doesn't do it quite enough for me. But I'd love to have a Fuck to play around with.

I have never tried that. The fuck is it?

Washtub pedal. Turns all my notes into incohate subby rumbles played out of key and makes me irresistible for tourists to throw money at. Also needs to project a hologram of overalls onto me.
