Your favorite living room rig?

- Get a 1x12 cab for the 50watt tube head you love so much, and hook it upto yer attenuator.
- Go digital/modeler
- Small tube amp

Leaning most towards the first option, cause I already have an okay attenuator laying around somewhere, and the 1X12 cab wouldn't cost too much. And I love that amp to bits, while I'm not sure what to expect from the other options. I just now that the modelers/sims I tried so far didn't impress me at all, and as far as small quiet tube combos go (<15Watt/10"), I haven't come across anything that handles fuzz/dirt/lows too great and doesn't sound boxy and whimpy.

I'm not even talking whisper quiet, I pretty cool neighbours. So I probably won't have to completely choke the amp with that attenuator. Or at least that's what I'm hoping

If it isn't obvious: I kinda already made up my mind. I'm still curious though, what does the rest of the population use for gnarly fuzzy riffage when they're not on stage or in a studio?

I normally use a little fender tube amp,
but I am thinking of just using the line out from my randall or getting the smaller version of the randall,

one of the things I hate is getting great sounds on the champ that don't translate live to the randall or vise versa,

I do need very low volume at times, when you can only play when the 2yo is napping and then the goal is to not wake the 2yo you have struggles.

I can play when he is awake but he takes over and I usually end up sitting on the floor and just letting him strum the guitar and fiddle with pedals

Fender excelsior is good with pedals out front. That was my main jam when I was being an ambient douche last winter. Wish I hadnt sold it, it loved the fuzz.

My main problem, srry if it sounds harsh: My kids.

They either keep nagging cause they can't hear the tv, they want to strum the strings, they start messing with my pedals or the controls of my gtr/amp,...

They're 3 and 6 yo now and I love em more than anything or anyone in this whole goddamn world...But man I how I regret not buying a house with a spair room for a man cave

Anywho...The AC15C2 I have now is rad, but it's kinda trebly and nasal. Doesn't even bother me that much when it's clean, but I rarely play clean. I know I could try clipping the infamous bright cap...But I'm having cash flow probs at the moment, and the vox is overkill now since I've got two other amps for 'loud' situations. So I figured it'd make sense to flip it in favor of a small cab for my attenuate'd Traynor Bassmaster

The vox is far from a shitty amp, but it just doesn't have that spungy super thick low end oomph of the Traynor Bassmaster....:s

I find that alot of 1x12 cabs sound "boxy" as much so as their combo counterparts. Didn't get along with an Orange 1x12 for that reason along with a few others. Mesa seems to be one company that makes a great sounding 1x12. Can definitely recommend the Mesa thiele and ported wide bodied cabs. They sound great.

As far a my living room setup, I use an Orange Micro Terror into an Emperor 2x12 more so than any of my 1x12 combos (Ampeg J12D & SS-35). Popped a Tung-Sol 12AU7 in the Micro Terror and she sounds golden at lower volumes. The headphone jack works wonders when my 3 month old is sleeping, and it cost less than most pedals.

Plenty of low wattage options out there. But would try out a few 1x12's before going that route if "boxy" bugs you as much as it does me.

i just play though a Vox Pathfinder 15, sounds good enough for me. I don't really play heavily fuzzed up though.

Fender Mini Deluxe. Sounds pretty flat, but set clean and running pedals into it, it's decent.

Old larger transistor amps are cool for livingroom rigs. Like the 2x12 Peavey's. They are usually very linear and will sound the same at any volume. Won't match the sofa though ...

my bedroom amp is my first amp I ever had - a Squire SS Champ with 8'' speaker that I got as a Christmas gift in like 95.' It was part of those guitar/amp packs - got a strat with it. I replaced the speaker with a cheap Weber and replaced some of the opamps and it sounds really good. Thought about spending extra money and getting a small tube combo but there really isn't any point. It sounds good and does it's job well.

Same as I'd use live (I never had "living room" gear) - I get gain from pedals, always have.

And Fender BF-type stuff sounds good at low volumes, and that's been my go-to staple past the Jazz Chorus which has a very Fenderish tone stack.

Mesa mkV 25 is hands the best amp i've used for home use. Further tweaking the 5 band EQ to bring in more high end to counter the lower volume.

Granted, you could argue it's pricey for a 25w amp but it takes pedals great and has heaps of variety. I like fuzz as much as I do pregain, why not have both.
