I agree with Bobby that it certainly looks Japanese. But I've never seen anything that looks quite like that before. Wouldn't hurt to pull the neck and pickguard off to check for markings. Anything on the neck plate?
I like it, it's got a sort of Hi-Flyer meets Mustang kinda vibe to it.
It almost looks like something that someone has cut down from it's original shape, but it doesn't look as bad as when someone does a hack job. It looks neat.

I used to have one of the above - the pickups were the best gold-foils I've ever played, miles beyond the usual silver-face ones (teisco, not dearmonds). I sold the guitar but ended up getting one of the pickups back, and I had it in the neck position of my mustang for a long time, before I put a nelson super chief in instead.
