Favorite New Wave/Punk Keyboardist?

Post by Chankgeez »

I have many, but Jimmy Destri's probably a good place to start:

Tommy Gear?

Which ever dude was playing keyboard at that moment in DEVO back in the early days of the band (I guess...).

I'll think of some more when my brain turns back on.

I like Jerry Harrison, but he's no Bernie Worrell:

Was thinking about him when I included "Punk" in the thread title.

Steve Nieve's another favorite:

All I can think of are like the Damned, the Deadbeats, and that one Conflict album "Conclusion", but I wouldn't say any were my favorite. I think they were right for what they did...

But in terms of just being a good keys player, Destri's probably got that one won. There are a couple of good recent bands though, but they never last long.

(and I wont subject anyone to the old LG demo tapes 'cause that's what it was punk with ring mod and a synth).

Something I heard a while ago:

Some of the Astronauts (punk UK anarcho hippie stuff) goes into synth territory, but I can't remember the name or side project of any of it. Well, I found something by them (I think, most of their stuff is acoustic):

I dig the dude in Hank Wood and the Hammerheads. No idea what his name is or anything like that

Where do The Aquabats! fit in to new wave? Because I'm okay with putting Jimmy The Robot on my list.

Everybody associated with this band is a secret musical genius.

My votes go to Jesse Johnson (Motion City Soundtrack), Parker Case (Say Anything), and our very own ILFer Brian Hamilton (Cymbals Eat Guitars), all of whom rock out harder than any other musicians in their respective bands. In Parker's case (that was an accident, I swear), while simultaneously playing guitar.
