Circuit Scribe: Draw Circuits Instantly
It is a rollerball pen that writes with conductive silver ink. It makes creating circuits as easy as doodling.
So, if this works, and it takes off, could we see an (even bigger) explosion of DIY effects?
What are the implications for effects building, basically?
i think it's nothing but a good idea to re-think how we do things technology wise in generally, but i think we're a long way off from seeing this type of 'user friendly' stuff taking over.
but whatever happens, it's going to be fun!!! cool post man!
Eh, definitely cool but I can't see it as being "revolutionary" in any fashion, except maybe outside wearables and stuff of that nature. For DIY audio, I doubt it. Like goroth alluded to, it's just a way of drawing traces. You still need to know what to draw and how to do it with some best practices in mind if you don't want to be plagued by problems. Granted, it definitely might be useful for one-off fun projects, but I doubt it will alter the boutique world in any way. Of course, I'm happy to be totally wrong.
I think it would interesting if you are into making pedal circuit boards on cardboard with brass eyelets. I've seen a few people do that on some DIY sites. You could just draw the circuit traces on the cardboard before you put your eyelets in. Also good for kids to learn the fundamentals of electronics. The pedal builders of tomorrow.
It might be something that would have application in doing repair work for damaged circuit boards.
It's probably not durable enough to handle the wear/tear of being in a pedal, but who knows where that general technology will be in a few years. It might totally kick off a new way to do one-off or short-run DIY effects.
