Versitile amp

Post by Bellyheart »

I'm playing out if a Mig 50 and a horrid Peavey 4x12. The other guitarist in the group has a 4x10 Deville and blows me out with the extra 10 watts. I'm looking to get a combo amp but since I have several bands ranging from post-hardcore to grind-esque to post-punk, and only have loot for one amp, I need great range in what it can do. Line6 is out of the question. I don't like modelling amps. Any suggestions?

you might laugh at this but im serious, like really
Roland JC 120
look it up, listen to it
it has the crappiest dirt channel ive ever heard but thats what pedals are for!
it works with pedals better than anything ive ever heard, really and has the mot versatile EQ on clean....btw the clean blows away any tube ive ever heard, vintage and modern fenders included

Well for blowing out of the water there is the Mesa Tremo-Verb 2x12 combo, that is if you can find one.
Takes a bit of tweaking, 4 different preamp/power amp combinations, 3 rectifier options. but sounds great when set up right.

keep an open mind to an Ampeg Vt-22 or VT40.
Freaking loud, great reverb, loves pedals and aren't too expensive.

a fender super reverb might go nice with that deville. Loud and clear and takes pedals beautifully. early silverface models go pretty cheap online, especially compared to the way-inflated vintage reissue prices fender has right now :grumpy:

htsamurai you know i love you but really...

I guess it's all opinion. Try a Dr. Z Prescription (what i play) or a vintage AC30 (lord knows they don't make 'em like they used to) or a Blackface Twin Reverb.... if you still aren't satisfied, Matchless Chieftan. It really is that good. But a gazillion dollars.

But i do agree, the JC has a sparkling clean that isn't nearly as brittle as any other SS amps... It just yearns for chorus, it honestly is the perfect clean tone for chorus. :thumb:

Maybe i'm just all tube. I also have a Fender 400. Loud & Beautiful.

If we're talking Sovtek MIG50 than yeah, keep it. They are high gain amps, and you seem to play high gain music. I think you should do something about the cab. I suggest an Orange or a Green. Or a sovtek. They make killer fucking cabs to go with their heads.

Personally, i would suggest a Carvin MTS3200. I know, it's a carvin. But it provides fucking awesome tones. It really does. My friend regrets getting rid of it. This is my highschool screamo band. This is the one song we recorded. All of that is a Danelectro Hodad with a Dimarzio Super D in the bridge, and a Duncan Jazz in the neck (the clean part) > carvin mts3200 (amp clean, amp dirt)> Home made/ Hand Made cab with EV SRO 15 in it) > some assholes shitty mic & Protools. we broke up before it was finished. Look past the shitty quality, and imagine it infront of you. It's awesome. I Swear. http://www.myspace.com/creaturenj you can get one for 430$ here http://www.musicgoround.com/detail.aspx?id=699782

If you want something that sings, Orange Rockerverb 100. If you want lower cost, find an old JCM 900 or 800 on ebay. They'll pull that shit great.

Personally, i really like the way these Verellen heads sound, particularly for that kind of music, a Loucks. http://www.verellenamplifiers.com/products.html

If that's not the route you want to go, i've always been a huge Sunn fan, and a Fender Silverface Bassman can do a FUCK of alot. One of the most used amps of all time. it's fucking immense.

Hope it helps.
I've got a fuzzbox and i'm not afraid to use it

I played out of a different cab today and I came through a lot better. Think I'm going to get another cab. However the Traynor ycv80q seems to do a lot but really I just want a single cannel because I have the dirty covered with my OCD.
