Chorus+Phaser in one pedal?

Post by frigid midget »

Another massive pedalboard overhaul is in the works. This one caused by the purchase of a fresh delay, which should replace two of my other pedals, and also needs to be funded by a couple other one that don't get much use anyway...

I'm not really THAT into modulation, and the new delay pedal should cover a lot ground too. Still, I'd like to keep the only two mod pedals that are on my board right now: Boss CE-2, DOD FX20. For those who aren't familiar with the FX-20: It's a phaser in the vein of the Small Stone, or at least so I'm told.

In hopes of ending up with a little cash to fund the new delay, and to maybe even clear a little board space...

Anyone know of both a good analog phaser and analog chorus in one enclosure? No frills, bread and butter would be fine, I'm more into lush warm tones than into space ship bleeps or whatever.

Also, before anyone mensiones Chase Bliss or whatever other uber-awesome boutique device: The point here is to save a couple bucks. If at all possible that is, cause I'm aware this is a long shot. What with the fact that both the FX20 and the CE-2 are sorta as cheap as it gets for top notch analog phaser/chorus and all :idk:

nothing that fits that criteria would be analog, too much guts to be small and cheap. there are things that will do chorus/flange or chorus/vibrato or trem/vibe etc but not phaser.
a Zoom MS-50 would work perfectly as a small mod box, but there's not much of a point, if you already have a CE-2 nothing is sound as good and cost less money and have a phaser in it.

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought. Figured it was worth making sure and asking here first though :idk:

Phaser / Vibrato is possible though, I'd look for something like that.
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee

If the phaser part is at least as good as what I've got now, I might consider it. You know of anything in particular? Like I said, I'm kinda clueless when it comes to modulation. I kinda know my classics, but that's pretty much it :idk:

Another option that been in my head for ages: Univibe. Makes sense for someone who doesn't want a bunch of different mod peds on his board and can't really decide which one he like best, right?

I guess that's an entirely different subject though, I'm sure the search function will be of help with this one :)

Still, if anyone cares to tell me what THE non-boutique (i.e. >$120ish used) Unive clone is these days, I'd appreciate it :)

I felt like what you were asking for was a vibe. But, I stopped short because I thought you wanted the effects separate, just in the same box. I have no idea what THE vibe is. But, I just sold my RRR for $125, and my favorite part of it was the rotating speaker patch.

Dunlop/MXR released that smaller Univibe a couple years ago. $130 new I think?

Maybe I'm the only one that doesn't care for the Dunlop Uni-Vibe?

I've never used it. Simply adding something that might meet his criteria.

There's also the ehx Good Vibes. Has expression control even.

Do you them in the same spot on your chain, but not together, or do you use them in line together?

It is 2015, where the hell are the phasorus/phasori pedals?

If you just wanted them separate, I'm sure you could get someone to rehouse a nano stone & clone in 1 box, but that would limit the amount of tweakability...

Chorus and flange are similar but with different delay times making the effect, pitch vibrato is just chorus without the dry mixed in. The vibe you can get on a phaser is also just phasing with no dry. But chorus and phasing have no commonalities so you need two entire circuits for that combo, whereas the other combos are just like "mods" of one circuit.

What about a boss high band flanger? They're cheap, and as long as you don't use them with distortion you can get a good faux chorus out of them. (With distortion you hear the additional harmonic content and it is more obvious that it is flanging and not chorus). It does a nice Leslie sound and also does whooshy stuff. Definitely more subtle than crazy.

EQD Grand Orbiter does phase and Vibrato I believe.

Not sure how it sounds though.

Thanks.

The whole point here is kinda to save a couple bucks, and the extra board space is just a convenient little extra.

If I put both my mod pedals on the chopping block, and I get along with the EHX Good Vibes (good call, wasn't aware of its existance, thnks), a used one should be cheap enough to end up with some extra pocket change.

Still on the fence about my CE-2 though. That thing kinda grew on me, and even though I only use it once in a while, now it sorta feels like I'm about to amputate a limb :(

I'm also not completely confident about the overal quality/reliability of today's ehx pedals :idk:
It probably shouldn't be a big surprise considering their low prices and all...But the ehx pedals I've the pleasure of messing with, were all either noisy, weird in the powering requirements, unreliable,...Or all of the above :s
