E13 Improbability Drive clone kit. What am I doing???
Built this crazy thing yesterday. The only controls I understand are the gain and volume. I built it with a voltage starve so I understand that too. But what do the other 3 pots and 2 switches do? I've been tweaking and exploring them and getting some crazy awesome sounds. Anyone have an OG version? If so do you know what you are doing or do you just tweak till you find the crazy sound you are after? Either way I'm loving this thing.

Did the kit come with a schematic? That'd help with answering your questions. Also, where'd you get the kit?

This is basically standard operating procedure when it comes to e13/devi.KaosCill8r wrote:you just tweak till you find the crazy sound you are after?

It probably would help a great deal if I could read schematics. The kit is from Fuzzdogs Pedal Parts in the UK. I've built heaps of his kits. Good sounding kits, fun to build and even more fun playing them. Best way to fill those insomnia hours. Beats going crazy. Or in my case crazier.leaves turn wrote:Did the kit come with a schematic? Yeah I thought that was the case.D.o.S. wrote:This is basically standard operating procedure when it comes to e13/devi.KaosCill8r wrote:you just tweak till you find the crazy sound you are after?

One switch bypasses the voltage sag pot. The other one looks like a toggle for positive/negative feedback. There is a third on the bottom but it's cut off in the manual. As fot the pots: I: dunno, II: again some feedback control, III: Looks like a bypass/blend control for the first gain stages.

I've got the Infanem built pedal. I think the knobs aren't labeled because there aren't any labels that would make sense. I'm not sure that basing your understanding of the controls on the electrical effects would really help to understand how they affect the sound. It's designed for fiddling and listening.

Re: E13 Improbability Drive clone kit. What am I doing???
For the I, II, and III knobs I view them like this.
I: Affects the texture/gate/oscillation. The higher you turn it the more weird, sputtery, octvia, oscillation you'll get.
II: almost like a control that interacts with both the I and III knobs. Can be used to tune the sensitivity of the gate/fuzz to input volume or tune oscillation, when it comes in and out during note decay.
III: The more I turn it up on mine it gets less bright and more compressed. Tunes oscillation as well like every other control.
I have the infanem one though, not sure if my demo will help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKfRUuvi4Ak

Thanks for the replies fuzz people. They were all helpful in some way. I love the pedals tweakability. Very steep learning curve but a very fun and addictive pedal. Once I get the hang of this pedal on its own I will stack it it with some others and see what sounds can happen. That should be really interesting.
Great demo PumpkinPieces. Mine sounds quite similar with some settings but the Infanem has a little more function than mine.
