what are yr favourite tabletop effects units?

Post by backwardsvoyager »

so I used to not really pay attention to stuff in non-pedal format because i was playing guitar in a band and obviously having everything neatly arranged on a pedalboard is the most convenient option to free up the fingers, but lately i've moved into a situation where i find myself wanting things tailored to hands-on control to be used with all kinds of instruments and don't have to be turned on with rugged 3pdt's that hurt my wussy little fingers.

so what kinda stuff is out there covered in arcade buttons and touchscreens and sliders and joysticks and buttons and shit that's fun to process all kinds of instruments with? any effect type is cool.

i realise in many situations just putting pedals on the table works fine especially with stuff that has a blend knob or whatever (masf possessed rules at this although i want to change the switch to a button), but to make things more fun and stick with a theme don't suggest things that are designed to sit on the floor and be stomped on :thumb:

^ i'm not necessarily looking for anything in particular, more just keen to experiment, but i saw those videos not long ago and am SUPER excited about that one, looks fucking great.

i find the bitquest does some really interesting things with drums and synths especially in the delay mode with the weird modulation, and the oscillating filters too, although it doesn't seem to cope too well with full range signals so kicks and really low piano keys tend to disappear.
sold my misty cave but that was definitely a good one, i do a similar thing with the ibanez AD-190, kind of miss the throbby LFO though.

Entering check-out mode.

Also, Alesis ModFXs besides Bitrman are worth checking and totally made for tabletop. Duh. Besides Bitrman I have Philtre, Metavox, Smashup. I think many of these r still cheepz.

Also, did anyone say Kaoss?

Boss RPS-10 and RSD-10, though you'd have to angle them up for easier knobbage.

Yeah, and Vermona Retroverb, kinda slightly less wiggy Moisturizer, but still pretty damn Wiggy; I got mine muy cheepo in an EvilBay auction.

Totes LAL Cyber Psychic, too, other than the stomp bypass.
