I just traded a guy my Headrush E2 for his DL-4 yesterday. The DL-4 is like new and works fine yesterday and most of today. Then It was bypassed and when I went to turn a preset On, no sound was coming out. I did a factory reset, reseated the EPROM chip and still nothing.
Anyone ever have this happen and know what it might be? The thing powers on, passes the bypassed signal (only in True-Bypass mode). There is a slight high pitched sound when the effect is engaged. It is very faint.
These things are some so damn unreliable. But the looper is so good!
Yes, every preset. I think I found the issue - bad voltage doubler in the power section. I've repaired some in the past. I figured since it powered up that the voltages were fine but they aren't. I removed the IC and ordered a new one. Fingers crossed that fixes the issue.
I can't believe Line 6 is still making them and hasn't redesigned/improved them, given their high failure rate.
Sounds like the exact same issue my buddy had with his DL4. Sorry to say he eventually just threw it away, after countless attempts of fixing it. It was like the chip was possessed or something, it just went fucking nuts after a while.
The DL-4 would be THE end all be all delay, I'd even pay a little bit more...If it were just a bit better build, and didn't have the goddamn volume drop
It's really too bad, cause as far as I know its competitors (DD-20, Delaylab,...) lack a couple tricks that set the DL4 apart.
