What would you do - delay/reverb dilemma?
I'm getting sick of my Alter Ego. I just want mod control. And I'm getting over my Boss FRV. I love reverb and have used a ton of different verbs but at this point, given my limited board space, I think I'd benefit from two delays instead. I only really use verb for a hazy wash so it just seems to make sense to go the dual delay route instead. I also like rhythmic dual delay sounds so that'd help on that end as well.
Here is the dilemma: Get two delays (Ekko? Carbon Copy? Disaster Transport?) OR get a disaster transport SR which I have a lead on for under $250.
The DTSR is incredibly tempting and I've wanted one for a very long time, but 600ms is short, and 300ms is VERY short. In addition, it'd be nice to have a pre-dirt delay and an end-of-chain delay. Price-wise, things are about the same. What would YOU do?
As for delay sounds, if I go the dual route, I'd like something relatively clean with longer times (CC? DD_?) and something murkier w/ mod (Ekko? DT?). Any suggestions on this front? Top-mount jacks are always ideal but I can't find many besides the Echo Puss and the DT.

If you're going for a washy delay to replace a reverb, you wont need long delay times, so I wouldn't worry about 300ms being too short.

Have you considered getting a "Multi FX" like the Zoom MS70CDR?

I find that 600ms sounds short when you read it but it's about the max of what find actually useful. YMMV of course but I wouldn't write it off out of hand.

For reference, pretty much all of David Gilmour's famous delay stuff is ~400ms.

I just wish EHX would reissue the 16 second delay (in a small format). Is there anything else out there that has crazy long times???

DTSr for end of chain. Digital delay earlier in chain.

DTSr sounds sooooo good. If the feature set suits you i would go for it. I normally don't like EQD delays and verbs cos they never have bloody trails functionality but the master footswitch on the DTSr makes it way way useful.
I never found the delay time to feel too short either. Modulation sounds nice, oscillations sound nice and are easy enough to tame, smeared delayverb sounds nice, only real 'problem' is being fixed to one board position.

Boss DD20 does like 23 seconds or something. But I think it sounds dumb when you change the delay time knob too fast.colossus wrote:I just wish EHX would reissue the 16 second delay (in a small format). Is there anything else out there that has crazy long times???

Congrats! The DT is one of my favourite sounding delays, it's really lovely.colossus wrote:THIS IS SETTLED. Just won a DTSR for $225. Yay me.

You need to stop pushing the DMM or I might kill myself. It's the only delay that could replace my ILFDD. Or complement itrustywire wrote:I'd get a DMM...or 3
