Drone synth/noise generator for under 100

Post by Seten »

I (think) I wanna get in to drone. I don't even fully understand what it is, so if I don't seem knowledgable about this, I'm not. I'm looking to get a drone synth or noise generator for under 100 (I think they're similar, but like I said, I know next to nothing on this topic)

Any information on drone in general is also welcome, because, as I have said, I know very little.

Choose any instrument and play the same note over and over on multiple tracks... You can do it with a mic if you can hum...

Maybe look at Monotrons.

Thanks man. that's almost exactly what I was looking for. Out of curiosity, are those analog?

I've thought about those. They're so cheap I'll probably just grab one anyway to check it out.

Unfortunately, I enjoy buying new instruments, and now that I have an excuse to, I'll probably buy one regardless of if it does nothing outside of what my vocal cords could do or not.

I can chime in on the Michael Rucci stuff. Fast shipping and fair prices. And as far as I know they are analog. The maximal drone seems killer, I only have the minimal drone but I like it. It is a bit "softer" than other drone machines, which I like. It becomes more of a pad sound.

I have the Maximal drone and it's a ton of fun. I'd agree that it's a little softer and more pad like but I really enjoy that.

this plus add some effects in the loops is a good option.

any of these boxes plus a delay, and a reverb, and you are SET....

if your into diy, even an atari punk console would work well...

Thanks guys. I think right now the min/maximal drone seems like a good start for me, but I also might get one of the cheapo plastic ones (monotron and gakken)

If you've already got an interesting fx chain, consider a feedback loop....

And if you've got an iPhone and/or iPad, there's LOTS of great apps for cheap that will feed your drone lust...
