AMPEG V2 FUCK YEAH

So yesterday I scored a non-master volume Ampeg V2 for $600. First experience with a good tube amp - I've had a few little 5 watt department store amps before. Right now I don't have a cab for it. My amp right now is an early jc120. Would I be able to plug the ampeg into the speakers, and use it as a 2x12 for a time until I pick up a dedicated cab? It's not the kind of thing I'd want to try without asking one of you first, haha.

As long as the speakers on the JC120 are the right ohmage (idk about V2's but my V4 does 8 all the way down to 2 so you're probably fine) it should be okay? Does it have a dedicated cable to the speakers or is it just speaker wire?

8 ohm, so no problem there (V4 is identical besides two extra tubes/more power, so I have the same switch), but after I checked the back I remembered that a) it's just speaker wire and b) it's an early one, so there's only six jacks on the back instead of eight and none of them are labelled. Guess I'll have to get a cab after all.

It'd be pretty easy to butcher one end of a speaker cable and crimp tab connectors onto the lead and ground wires...but I feel compelled to say CONGRATS, NMV V2 is the best ever

and so you should ABSOLUTELY find an excellent cab to go with it.

...but we can help you disconnect and rig the jc120 speakers up pretty easily in the meantime if you want.

Not an Ampeg guy, but word of caution in running the speakers.

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT have them in ANY WAY connected to the JC-120's electronics.

Also, they're probably going to be a lot more hi-fi than the junkers Ampeg of the time used.

That may be good for you, it may not.

unfortunately some asshat swapped the original roland speakers for some low-end 'legend' brand, so it isn't quite as 'hi-fi' as stock. I'm not gonna bother swapping any cables though, but I appreciate the help. I found an old traynor 1x15 that I should be picking up today - 8 ohm. Right now this is my bedroom amp, cause I'm crazy, so the 1x15 seems like an ideal compared to something like a 4x12.

Very similar if you're comparing same-era models, the V2 just reaches that brilliant power tube breakup at a much more reasonable volume.

Dude, they aren't Eminence Legends are they?

god no -the brand name is Legends. 'Made in Philippines' is the only info on 'em. If they were Eminence Legends I wouldn't complain.
