Cool original versions of songs

Post by snipelfritz »

Do you ever discover a kinda meh song was actually a cover and the original version of the song was totally amazing?

Lately, I've been obsessed with the Slade version of Cum on Feel the Noize (made popular by Quiet Riot). Very right up my alley.

Snipes sometimes you post songs and I end up listening to them on repeat for hours. This is rapidly approaching one of those.

Also Slade is rad.

there was a while when i was a youngster that i thought dissident aggressor was actually a slayer song. didn't realize it was a judas priest cover for a while. i was young and hadn't delved far into the back catalogs of the classic bands yet at that point. i still think the slayer cover is killer, but man, the original is just amazing. so crazy heavy for 1976 or whenever sin after sin came out. truly a defining song for the young genre of heavy metal. the original is just much more impressive when taken in context of how ground breaking it was. for slayer in 1990-ish it's just a great song, but for judas priest in the mid 70's it's mind blowing. plus halford.

Yeah, dude I can't stop listening to it.

I'm surprised I never listened to Slade before. I absolutely love early seventies glam kind of stuff like this.

It's funny you say this. I made the opposite thread a while back called "Great covers of horrible originals" where I used Dissident Agressor as the example.

I don't like either much to be honest, and while at it, as much as I like Slayer or something this was just.. no.

Note the use of fuzz and not being metal actually making the original more "sinister or something" :trippy:
