Re: Low gain textural fuzz
My answer is probably similar to the one in the blown amp topic:
Henretta Engineering Pinkman
Jupiter FX Harmonic Fragilator (Harmonic Percolator)
Earthquaker Dirt Transmitter is also pretty cool, if maybe a tad dark with some guitars or amps, and a good Rangemaster (DAM Red Rooster for instance) into the right amp (Vox style EL84 mostly) can do it too.

Re: Low gain textural fuzz
Tristan, what other Harmonic Percolators have you tried and why do you prefer the Jupiter?

Re: Low gain textural fuzz
Excuse me dudes, listed some more things that came to mind above.
I dunno Chankz, that's the one I got, I was interested in the Fredric and the Karma Suture too but in the end I liked the Jupiter FX so much that I just went for it, in clip mode it can do this horn / trumpet thing if you almost max it out and it's very responsive to other pedals you use it with.
I think it's actually the coolest horn / trumpet sound I heard out of any fuzz so far and it also rocks bigtime with the clipping out, the eq / midrange and response on it is quite particular as well, I can't really explain, guess it just suits me.
According to phanta (who sold the Jupiter FX to me) it sounds cooler than the Fredric, which, if the online demo's are any representation of the real thing, I tend to agree on.

Re: Low gain textural fuzz
Got uni's Demo Tape Fuzz here too by the way but it's not completely my thing, it sounds cool and can do lots of different things, I miss a bit of punch and attack though, you know, I want it to punch me in the gut if I hit my guitar, some boxes just don't do that enough for me.

Re: Low gain textural fuzz
Thanks, Tristan. I've got a Fredric and like it, but it's the only one I've tried. I do like the Harmonic Percolator circuit. (Though I think it sounds best with both knobs cranked.) So, I'd like to try somebody else's version eventually. Jupiter's now high on the list.
Syl, I think I've told you before, you should really check out a Basic Audio Fuzz Mutant. Very textural.

Bummeroo, if you weren't overseas I'd say lets do a temporary swap but the tax risk is too high this way.
Try the Karma Suture maybe.
Oh, found some clips, the Jupiter FX actually sounds quite close to these:

Re: Low gain textural fuzz
All of my drive pedals are set pretty low gain so I can stack them easily. Elements is set to cocked wah drive/boost, Devi Brown LP has a compressed overdrive feel, 71 Supercollider is set low gain too and stacks extremely well with the Devi. On its own the supercollider blends well with the rest of the mix and fills it out.
Holowon Furr Fuzz and Improbability Drive are excellent options at my disposal as well.

Re: Low gain textural fuzz
Thanks Chankz, wouldn't have known without you!
While I'm usually not a fan (again, lacking in attack / punch in the gut quite often for me) some Devi pedals can be pretty cool, I remember the Devistortion with the Kaoss Party and Electric Brown circuits to be quite good for these low gain yet still kinda blownout type sounds.
Oh, yeah, I want those Penny Pedals too, especially the Pocket Watch.
