I've recently joined a new band and Broadcast are one of our big inspirations.
I was wondering, is there a fuzz pedal that could get close to that compressed bitcrushed tone that the synth in the background has, whilst still being fairly melodic?

HEXE bitcrusher III or OTO Biscuit are the most musical bitcrushers I've owned or played.

Sounds more like a blown out fuzz sound to me. Kinda the effect you get from plugging a Casio into a practice amp and cranking it.

True^
It does however also seem to have a certain sample rate reduction type quality to it.
Layering the Hexe Bitcrusher III with your main drive / fuzz is especially useful to get these type of sounds because it has a more musical and softer type of sample rate reduction to it with beautiful harmonics and the bandpass filter on it can help to tame things down a little, the mix control works especially well too compared to other bitcrusher / sample rate reducer pedals I tried.
The only thing is that in the clip the waveform of the sample rate reduction seems to be closer to a random wave or something, the Hexe Bitcrusher III doesn't do that.
I think the Freakshow FX HiRay or Copilot FX Orbit combined with an expression pedal might work for you too.
I have all of the aforementioned pedals and I might actually visit the UK / Bristol / London in the not too distant future so maybe we can work something out.
