What is this Stratotone please??

Post by raphaël »

Hey, I've a question about Stratotones...

I'd like to have one, especially a Jupiter (blonde with the tortoise pickguard  )

And I ran into that:
http://www.leboncoin.fr/instruments_de_ ... htm?ca=6_s

The 2 pickup Silvertone's Stratotone (with this shape of pickguard) usually don't have the same pickup covers as Harmony's ones...but here it's clearly classical Goldfoils.
So I'm clearly missing something here...

Those guitar are pretty rare around here in France (I am trying to sell my 90 Les Paul Custom which I didn't play for the past 5 years at least, and I want guitars from Harmony/Supro/Kay/Airline/...) so I have to hurry if I don't want to wait another year to see one.
Plus do you think it worths the 850 euros?

Any help will be much appreciate :thumb:
Thanks

I think that's a Mars.

Nothing is really clear cut with Harmony. They sometimes used whatever pickups they had on hand. Don't let that throw you. Seems OK.

850 Euros seems a little high to me, but I don't know what European pricing is running these days.

Looks like a great guitar, and definitely seems like a legitimate Harmony build. Like Chanks said, they built all of those guitars with any combination of available parts. I bet those pickups sound awesome in that guitar. I had a Rocket with those gold foils in it, and they were awesome. And the necks on these Stratotones are some of my favorite. Nice and thick. Really comfortable to play. These are some of my favorite guitars all around.

As for the price, that is up to you I suppose. Doesn't seem totally unreasonable for the European market though.

Thank you guys...

I feel comfortable with gasing on that guitar now :)

As for the price, it would cost me something like 900 to 1300 euros to buy one on the US ebay (with the shipping rate and the duty taxes)...I should be able to have it for 750/800 euros with the shipping...it could be a very good deal!!!

You're welcome. Yeah, if that price seems good to you, I'd go for it.

Looks to be in order. Those are the same pickups are the plain top "hershey bar" eariler version the fellas are thinking of.
It's correct for the era it was made in though.
