EX 8 Step Program... (school me on controllers)

Post by K2000 »

What are other devices in it's category?

I'm interested in the CV/expression aspect (not into basic arpeggiating effects like the Slicer.. unless the Slicer does more that I'm not aware of). I want to externally control effects pedals.

8 Step Program Likes:
Inexpensive, seems simple to use which appeals to my duh.

Dislikes:
Sliders are not calibrated or quantized. Maybe midi control addresses that? (But I don't use midi). So if you wanted your sequence to be an exact speed (etc etc) I don't think you can do it easily.
Every step is weighted (weighted ?) equally, meaning no syncopation (unless putting two sliders at the exact same level works in a crude way?)

My sequencing needs are super-duper simple at the moment (but there's always "mission creep" if it works well). Price point seems good. But what else is available in this class? I can haz other options?

:idk:

The Slicer's not really an arpeggiator? It's more of a trem/filter/panner. It can be synced via midi which is super cool.

I've got a copilot broadcast (kinda), and it's pretty super. Mine has tap-tempo out that can be synced with the rate knob or the expression jack.

With sequencers every step is always weighted the same. To get syncopation or swing, you have to strategically program silent steps. it's not ideal, but it works. So, with a sequencer that has more steps you can program it to sound more, or less, "real" than you can with a simple sequencer.

The Koma RH301 looks super handy for this sort of stuff

You can edit the title in your first post...

It's not in pedal form but the Arturia Beat Step does this with CV and MIDI... It's its own clock so you can use it stand alone or with some MIDI... It's only one out but you could get a splitter... It's a full on sequencer so it could get a lil trickier then the 8 Step... I have one that I use to CV my Minitaur... It's only $99...

Moog CP-251. Expensive, and I've heard nothing that couldn't be DIY-ed cheaper, though I haven't seen schematics.

(Most of my expression equipped stuff is apparently not CV friendly, so this isn't a road I've gone down.)

Oooh. It's a little larger than I'd like, but still... I will investigate.
