yeah sure, it's cheesy. But that has always been their point, don'T you think? If you don'T take rock music too seriously, it's a really fun record
and to answer the big question... they did sort of some back to the old sound. It's dirtier, fuzzier. It actually really does remind me of Pinkerton, however, with more prominent bass and cleaner production on the vocals.
So it is sort of a mix of the older alt-rock with some of their more current pop sensibility. But it really works in my opinion. Even with the really pompous closing tracks that sort of sound like something Queen would do with the over-the-top theatrical feel and stuff like that
You know in the Simpsons where homers trying to write a follow up for the be sharps and he's plinking away at the piano going 'there was nothing in al capone's vault...but it wasn't geraldo's...fault' and it's just like PAINFUL how hard he's pushing it uphill? That's what weezer has sounded like to me for the last 15 odd years.
I'm sort of sad that liking Weezer seems like such a stigma...
I mean fuck, I'm only two years older than the Blue Album and I remember being a little kid and hearing Buddy Holly and losing my shit over it. It was definitely one of the oldest encounters with rock music I remember and remember liking
And yes, I have liked the stuff since. Not all of it, but to my defense - the new one is a lot like Blue and Pinkerton IMHO. Check it out
I saw them not long after that album came out, they were great. I really like the first two albums, everything afterwards has just been a struggle to get through.
Saw Weezer on the Make Believe tour and they were great then. I like everything up to Make Believe, anyway.
I think Maladroit is super underrated.
Definitely interested in hearing the new record, now.
Hey! Let's talk about serious thing. We're gonna talk about guitar, dude.

Oh man, I used to be big fan of Weezer. I even spent time on the Weezer messageboard for a while after the green album. I started falling out with them when they were releasing mp3s of their pre-Maladroit demos. a lot of great songs were dropped in favor of some not so good ones that wound up on that album. Then i realized that Ozma was making better Weezer albums than Weezer at that point and i stopped being an avid fan. i listened to Make Believe a few years ago and thought it was good, but then there were the albums after that.
listening to this new album now, its honestly not bad. i feel weird.
Maladroit was majorly underrated, and Red Album had some great songs on it. I didn't listen to anything after that but I'm gonna give this one a shot based on what I've read.
Nope can't do it.
I tried, I really did.
But "now I just can't take no more, I've had it up to here" with new Weezer.
I'm gonna go listen to their first s/t.
At least I don't feel so weird now. I honestly felt like it's a weird thing to do... like Weezer
I still have to catch up with the few last ones (Raditude, Hurley, Death to...). Heard some of them and I really don't know...
but still - the new one makes up for former mistakes I think. I really like it... Sorry you don't like it, Petz, really hope I'm not hyping y'all for some super massive disappointment
