"tightest" sounding fuzz/distortion?

Post by snipejd »

so I'm going to expand my fuzz/distortion arsenal and I want to get a fuzz/dist that's more musical - when I say that I suppose I mean a fuzz that's "tight", not one that has squeals/pitchy noises in it (HOWEVER if it had a footswitch for self oscillation that'd be cool), so I'm probably looking for something in the gated fuzz family right?
what should I be looking at?
Does the Arc Effects Crimson King fall into this family?
probably not a fuzz factory right? what about a fat fuzz factory? any different?

I guess I'm looking for something bright that you strum and when you stop it there's not a lot of bleed - if that makes sense...

would love to here what the gentleman/ladies here have to direct me towards!

These might not be the best recommendations, but at least it'll be food for thought:

Devi Ever 90-bright, tight sounding fuzz/distortion:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKph2IAkXao

Devi Ever US-very gated:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfYVMuOdQ14

Devi Ever Hyperion-kind of a distortion-like fuzz without a "squishy pick attack", as stated in the PGS video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4R4YMOp8Xw

Devi Ever Aenima:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0fSWTj0ln8

Devi Ever Hound's Tooth-Sounds real cool with palm muting. Devi referred to it as "probably the pinnacle of usable low fidelity guitar signal processing." on her website :

Maybe a Fuzzhugger algal bloom? Maybe not a very "tight" sounding fuzz, but it sounds very musical and useable.

And I think Dwarfcraft Devices Eue Clair Thunder has an oscillation footswitch.

it has a momentary internal feedback looper....probably another way of saying oscillation?

I'd say the Elements or BAT Quantum Mystic for distortion.

The Supercollider 71 is a super tight muff option.

The elements is a bitchin distortion with all sorts of tone shaping control.
The Frazz Dazzler is Ryan's fuzz offering. It can do gated and tight and loves palm muting.

yeah, a muff or a rat clone. I have a CMatmods Black Plague (now called the Ratified) and it can get really fuzzy, but it has a lot of attack. The only thing I would change is that I'd make it less mid-rangey. It's a tad bit hard to nail the tone-range I want with it.

While I LOVE the sound of the Dwarfcraft ECT, I wouldn't call it "tight", at least not if you're doing fast stuff. Brilliant for (especially sludge/doom and) slower things though!
Out of all the already mentioned I've only owned the Musket and think it did this pretty well, the overall sound wasn't my thing though. Also a cheaper option would be Crunch Box which although not at the same level as other pedals in this thread, could do the jobb pretty well tight-wise.
