Another annoying "why isn't this pedal working" thread

My friend gave me a Devi Ever bit that wasn't working. Didn't really get any details on why, but I got it home and plugged it in. When engaged the led comes on but there's no sound. However, if I touch the volume pot (I've got the pcb out of the case) i get a buzz. No buzz from touching the pregain pot. Also by turning the volume all the way up I get some hum and if I turn it on with the volume up you hear the switch click really loudly through the amp. Unfortunately it's one of the smd versions so it's gonna be difficult to mess with unless it's one of the larger parts that's bad. Any ideas pedalwizards?

is the bypass signal fine?
all of my 'borken' poedal problems have been to do with the stomp switch
i know nothing about electronics but it seems to be the part the craps out the quickest/most
