Tremolo talk

Post by Casavettes »

Can we just talk about this effect that some people seem to hate/not care for while others love?
I personally really dig it but have yet to find a pedal that has truly grabbed my attention.
I'm using the empress trem v2 which sounds great
But I don't know.. Something about it just isn't dropping my jaw.

Before that I've had the tremolessence, Polypus and used the trems on the m9 which sound cool
Especially the pattern trem.

I'm thinking of ditching the empress to save on real estate and money
But the only thing that's keeping me from hanging onto it is the presets..
What ya'll say about tremolo?

Count me in the love camp. My favorite is the Gretsch Tremofect, simply amazing the textures and tone. It lets me select the speed/volume of the effect for bass mids and treble ranges. The tremoloessence is fantastic but so transparent, and I think I like added thickness from my modulation. The Schaller Tremolo has about the best tone. I like kicking on the tremolo so it affects the trails of chords or passages, something I really like is the tremolo in the f/x loop of a delay like the Meet Maude, just beautiful. Great effect, I can't imagine why someone wouldnt like it and they should feel bad.

I have a love/hate with trems. One of those deals that when I hear someone else using it I'm all about how awesome it sounds, but as soon as I turn mine on, it seems kinda lame. Even with having the Empress V1, I always go back to using the Moog ring mod on guitar as a trem. It sounds much fuller and more lush (I hate that word).
BUT! Is it just me, or is trem on bass so much more fun? Fuzz + Trem in the lower freqs is like

i really like tremolo but i use it sparingly so i never seem to keep a dedicated pedal on the board.
funnily enough i've found probably my favourite trem sound thus far on the strymon timeline. delay time at minimum, set wet signal for a fairly choppy trem effect to taste, then blend in the dry signal at about 50/50.
blending uneffected signal with a delayed tremolo effect has this weird thickening character to it whilst never feeling 'choppy'. it's interesting. i like running reverb into it for jazzy/surfy toans.

I have a love/hate relationship with trem as well. I think one that I enjoyed the most was the DIY Tap Tempo trem. SO MANY WAVE FORMS

I'm with ya. I'm planning on picking up a Moog MF Trem. I think that's probably gonna hold me over for a while though.

:D

You need to get a Ripplet to go with all your other LAL. LOL.

Also, been meaning to grab a Fredric West Germany Tremolo.

Tremolo's fantastic when applied nicely.

Love it here (at least I think it's tremolo. :idk: ):

Tremolos make me queezy, so of course I love them. I haven't got a designated pedal for it, just the incorporated one in my VOX AC30.

I like the effect but haven't found a petal I like yet. I'm using a voodoo labs trem right now and something just seems off with it. I really want to try a mini moog soon.

I tend to like tremolo on everything but electric guitar.
Bass, drum machines, vocals, samples, etc.
Anything from subtle to full-on helicopter can be cool.

Light trem on electric can be nice, but I tend to prefer other modulation as a general rule.

I freaking love tremolo. Got the empress v1 and a hummingbird. The hummingbird is really different to the empress. On slow speeds with more gentle depth it has a wonderful low fi asymmetry. So that could be an option.

But if you want a sine wave sorta trem my favourite is actually the boss tr-2. It's pretty much the perfect simple sine wave trem. And ty are dirt cheap. Only the older ones were affected by a volume drop.

I realized only like hard chop tremolos like the EQD Hummingbird and Seppuku Repeater. Had a TR-2 and didn't care for it much. I like the sound of the BOSS PN-2 on all those old shoe gaze records too but I've never tried one in person.

That would be nuts if one came up for sale
I've been doing something similar with my new kay tremolo, which is a treadle design and is so nice being able to change speed in real time. Sounds really cool playing single note lines in the valleys so it doesn't sound like there is any effect, and then slowly increasing the speed of the tremolo to start adding modulation etc.

Add too that the Vox repeater trem is soooo unique sounding and cooool. I think the hummingbird is the same circuit?

Yeah, sure the Hummingbird is based on the Vox Repeat Percussion.

I've been wanting to try the Moog trem for awhile
Lately I've been bouncing between that or a hummingbird
Also the stutterbox seems cool
