Noisemaker Zero Question
So, I'm replacing my digital multieffects pedal with separate individual pedals, so I'm pretty much starting from scratch. As a consequence, I've been scouring the web for the most inexpensive pedals, and stumbled across Noisemaker, the cheapest boutique brand I've seen.
I'm really digging the pedal demos online, but I've noticed that these pedals seem to have few parameters (hell, the Freakshow only has the one!), and tend not to have tone knobs. It seems each pedal specializes in its own "tone" of fuzz.
The Crush, Donner Party, and Kill stood out to me. The Freakshow, too, mostly because of the demo that pairs it with a reverse reverb to get a very Loveless-esque sound (on it's own, it may not be my favorite of the bunch, but it's also the cheapest). But, seeing as I'm just starting the base pedals of my arsenal and want to have as diverse an array as possible, with as versatile pedals as I can get, the limited tonal variation of these pedals is a bit worrisome.
So, my question is if I should just save up and get a Noisemaker Zero instead, which appears to be their Fuzz suite with very manipulable parameters. None of the online demos I've seen spend too long really showing off the range of sounds that are bound to be achievable through that many knobs, so I was wondering if the Zero is capable of the sorts of tones you get from their other fuzz boxes. If so, I'd just save up and get that, rather than having to choose between their other cool pedals.
Anyone know if I can get Crush, Kill, etc. sounds out of a Zero?

No experience with their pedals, but that's a really rad first post.

Re: Noisemaker Zero Question
Agreed on the rad first post, I don't have any of their fuzzes, but I have the Nebula delay/reverb and if the rest are this good, then I would wholeheartedly recommend them.

Re: Noisemaker Zero Question
Thanks for the warm welcome, folks!
I've also had my eye on some of their overdrives. Particularly the Loudmouth. But they sound pretty high-gain, almost like distortion. I'm sort of wondering if they would suit my purposes as a "first overdrive pedal," or if I should get something more traditional with less gain first, and then add the Loudmouth later. Trying to get everything I "need" before I branch out to getting "extras."

Re: Noisemaker Zero Question
I have a noisemaker zero fuzz and I can say it is an awesome fuzz machine. Does all the crazy gated, oscillating, bit crushed blips and noises you hear in the demos. A knob twiddlers delight. It also has some nice normal fuzz sounds as well. Like a big muff with adjustable mids. Plus more. I would say save up for one. I also have the soda pop fuzz and that is a great fuzz also, kind of fuzz face sounding and it also cleans up into a nice overdrive sound. Noisemaker fx are great value for money. Great build quality and just awesome sounding pedals.

Welcome! If you're just starting to build your pedalboard and are looking for bargains, do yourself a favor and visit the B/S/T and Shark Tank forums right here on ILF. You can pick up several amazing pedals on the cheap if you hit it right. I have bought and traded a bunch of stuff and have yet to have a bad deal (just use your head).
I've been interested in the Noisemaker stuff too, but haven't got to try any of their pedals yet. I feel that most af the demos are pretty lackluster and none of my favorite pedal demo guys have reviewed them (Just Nick, PGS Andy & that Frankenstien guy).

Welcome to ILF dude!!
Another supporter of Noisemaker Effects here. Excellent builds at affordable prices!
I had the Freakshow and it certainly lives up to it's name. Not sure if I'd buy it as a first fuzz, but it's definitely an interesting one to have in the arsenal for recording etc.
The Zero looks great and is probably worth saving for. Personally, I don't really go for crazy oscillations, bleeps and bloops etc (sacrilege, I know!) so the Crush Fuzz and Soda Pop are on my To-Buy list instead. Really, you can't go wrong!

Is the soda pop still made or was it replaced by the crush 2014 version? I never see the pop.

Re: Noisemaker Zero Question
It may have gone actually a part of the recent overhaul of the graphics and pedal range. Pity if it is gone coz it was a damn good sounding pedal!

Re: Noisemaker Zero Question
Grab the soda pop. If your a fan of nice sounding warm fuzz tones you will love it. Very ge transistor sounding for a si tranny fuzz. The crush fuzz I don't have but I think the soda pop was evolved from the crush fuzz. Don't quote me on it though. I think the noisemaker dude is a member of this forum. Hit him up with a pm and get more details from the dude himself.chutneyfarmer wrote:Welcome to ILF dude!!

Re: Noisemaker Zero Question
From the description I have seen of the pop, it sounded like it was just an updated or upgraded version of the crush. Maybe he decided to simply go back to the crush moniker. I almost pulled the trigger on it the other night as it does sound nice especially for 66 American dollars.

Re: Noisemaker Zero Question
Will do! I skimmed through it earlier and it looked pretty cool. I'll be browsing frequently.Rob Fossil wrote:Welcome! If you're just starting to build your pedalboard and are looking for bargains, do yourself a favor and visit the B/S/T and Shark Tank forums right here on ILF.
Yeah, that's a thing I've noticed, as well. The demos are mostly just pretty nice riffs, but those nice riffs don't really show you everything you came to see about the pedal.Rob Fossil wrote: I've been interested in the Noisemaker stuff too, but haven't got to try any of their pedals yet. Well, I guess it wouldn't be my first fuzz. I had a Big Muff with the tone wicker, which I loved. Due to a really long story, I'm currently not sure if I will ever see it again, so I decided to get new types of fuzz instead of buying another Muff. That way, if I do get it back, I won't have two of the same pedal. And if I don't, at least I'll still have a nice fuzz, and I can always decide to buy another Muff later.chutneyfarmer wrote:Welcome to ILF dude!!

Probably won't be my only other fuzz, either. I'm eyeing the Joyo Voodoo Octave. At first, I was planning on staying away from those cheap Chinese brands, as they seemed too good to be true; however they actually have pretty good reviews, and clones of more expensive pedals with almost identical circuits. I'll probably still get a few established-company brands and boutique pedals here and there to treat myself, though.
Yeah, I like weird, crazy sounds. But I'm also wondering if the Zero can do things that approximate the Crush or their other smaller pedals in addition to that. Maybe I'll shoot them a PM.chutneyfarmer wrote: The Zero looks great and is probably worth saving for. And again, thanks for welcoming me to the forum, everybody!
