Paddy's Pedalboard build

Post by Paddyob »

Well here is a rough sketch of the body shape. Guess what? It's a wedge. Yup. Like many others. Not much to see yet.

I'm going to use the general shape of an aircraft wing (as best as I can) to form the chassis. Round front and back.

Try to improve on my last one if I may. Keeping the locking Neutrik jacks and probably stay mono... As I do not have any stereo pedals.... Or capability.

If I go stereo... I might need to build another board. Uh oh. ;)

From suggestions... Ill definitely look to add a riser for the back. I never on the last one and wish I had.

It will be an enclosed body with a panel that will open upwards for cables or power source access. (Last one - bottom access. Works great. But top access would be cool. )Maybe with a hydraulic arm to hold it open while tinkering. Anyways. It will be fun. Hopefully as cool as I envision.

It might be a metal of sorts. Undecided on type. Trying to decide if metal is the way to go.

I'm not likely to go aluminum as I don't want to. Lol. I'm 100% set up for mild steel... And I'm versed in mild steel (structural steel fitter - I build frames for buildings... A pedalboard is a small frame. Ha ha ). So if steel... Light gauge square tube and thin others materials. Weight weight weight.

Might go wood still on this one.... Weight and wood grain.

Anyhow... This is the beginning.

I'll update as I go.

After much thought and deliberation, I have rounded up the materials I'll be using to build this.

All mild steel. Hopefully, due to my busy life, I'll have progress in the next couple weeks.

I'm big on recycling steel... So I'm cutting up a fish tank stand that's sitting in my yard. It's 1/16x1"x1" square tube. That's the frame. Very light.

I've also got some 3-1/2" pipe for the nose and checker plate angle for the toes. :)

The platform will be wooden.

Yup.

Can't wait to see the in process pics. What about some kind of fresh perforated steel for the platform?
Kinda want you to try and find a steel like corten that will corrode to only a degree so you get rust and then it stops...

I have some perforated sheeting, but it seems a waste to cover in pedal tape.

I will be using some for the side panels I believe.
