OMG I FUCKING HATE PATCH CABLES

Post by Jwar »

Before ILF ass rapes and kicks me off again, I wanted to start a discussion with you lovely bros. If you're like me, you spend about an hour or more every other month (maybe more) rearranging your pedal board or making changes to it in general. While doing this, the logically thing to do is remove everything from the board and then put things back on in a neat and sexy manner. Well as neat and sexy as you can.

Since I have a larger board, it seems that every fucking time I move shit, I have a patch cable go out. I literally have a shoe box full of fucked cables. I'm so goddamn tired of these piece of shit cables, I'm going to go insane! I'd like to say that I will just stop moving things, but that's never going to happen.

SOOOOOOOOO! What is your patch cable of indestructibleness. And don't say fucking Lava or George L because I've been down that road they are piece of finicky shit.

Right now I have about half Mammoth cables and half different shit I bought else where. Some from GC, some from god knows where.

Haven't had many troubles with patch cables but I've had soooooooooo many troubles with leads. I just brought a new cable the other week and I already have to have it taped into the one position it will work on. It's so frustrating I think I'm going to make my own. It's not like I'm being rough either..

I've even had this weird issue where a plug was slightly too large for some pedals and amps. It was weird one end of the cable was fine but the other wouldn't fit half my gear.

I keep having weird grounding issues. Fucking pisses me off. I know it's the god damn cables. UGH! I'm about ready to just buy all new ones.

If you can, unscrew the jack so you see the solder touching the jack. Usually that's all it is and a simple resolder fixes it right up.

They are very good.
I've got my whole board done with them, except for some longer cables I made myself. Dunno how durable they are as I don't really redo my board that often, so even shit cables work pretty well on my board, but I really like the EBS. Will have to dissect one to see how it's constructed. Only time I've ever had problems was with solderless, and just like Jwar, that ain't happening again.

my buddy andrew runs this cable company, and his cables are the most durable i've come across. he'll do custom lengths for you at a minimal extra cost. i use his cables exclusively and i wouldn't go to anyone else. i may be a bit biased, but they rule and i've never had one crap out on me and i don't know anyone who's had theirs crap out on them either.

I just tried the Evidence Audio SIS patch cables as part of a tourbox and they are pretty sweet, and easy to assemble. I'm going to pick up a set when I have the money. Not cheap, but worth it to me for the low profile and durability. Nothing infuriates me more than recabling a pedalboard and having something not work because of huge barrels or some cable-related nonsense (though half the time it's related to pedal builders placing the power input like 2mm from the in or out jacks--WTF?!).
Good deals on ILF: too many to list, just ask!
