Is this possible/can somebody build me this?

Post by backwardsvoyager »

Okay so I thought of something I'd really like for my setup, just wondering if it makes sense and if any ILF builders would be up for it.

Basically the idea is a feedback looper and limiter in the same box, used as an interface between my guitar and amp.
So the guitar would go into the box, which would have a send and return for my whole board to go in, there would be a feedback amount knob and a footswitch to activate the feedback loop (maybe one latching and one momentary), the output from that would go internally into a hard limiter circuit (with external controls and preferably it would just activate only when the feedback looper is activated), then the pedal output could go straight into the amp. The objective is to be able to quickly and easily turn my guitar rig into a noise rig without the fear of overloading my amp/killing people.
Obviously i could just buy a limiter and a feedback looper but it would be nice to have something in one box with a custom feature set, and ILF-approved to boot.

Thanks in advance, dudes. Hopefully that all made sense.

That makes a lot of sense to me.
I do think there's feedback loopers available with an output volume control, but I guess that's not what you're looking for, right?

Wasn't aware of any that had an output control, that could be almost as good but i think having a limiter circuit would be a lot better for my intended use. It'd be nice to smash the signal and set an output ceiling with as much control as possible.
I don't remember seeing any limiters in the DIY threads so I wasn't sure if it's something that's simple to build or whatever.
Oh, and it would have a master killswitch before the output too. Because why not.

Backwards is right. The volume controls on FB loopers I know of attenuate either input or output but a limiter is the only way I can think of to ensure consistent volume - allowing your feedback to get as crazy as you want and do it's thing then limiting the volume to near unity regardless of what the loop puts out. You need to find a DIY compressor with a super high or infinite ratio, or one that can be modded infinite. Worst case rehouse a boss lmb-3 in an enclosure with a FB loop.

Yep, and ideally it could be used to drive the signal even further for extra clipping whilst keeping the output ceiling manageable. I want it to be a nasty clipping feedbacking mess but one that I can finely monitor the level of. As much as i love extreme volume it's just not practical for the venues I get to play at. Noise restrictions here are pretty shitty.

I bought a black label LM-2 recently that would have been perfect for this but it got lost in the post... If there isn't a suitable DIY comp/limiter circuit it might work to find a cheap old beaten up LM-2/LM-2B for the cause :idk:

Wow, I'm just thinking, this must be awesome together with the BitQuest.
