DOD Bass Grunge mod Question
Does anyone know how to mod the DOD Bass Grunge to get more treble out of the "zip"(tone) pot and more clarity at lower "stupid" (gain) settings? I'm trying to copy the D.D Verni/Frank Bello tone, im very, very close when i run my DOD Bass Overdrive in front of it with the tone cranked and gain set just before it breaks up(i get an active pickstyle sound), with the grunge set at a very low gain setting with only a touch of tone, so the Grunge basically adds a little dirt/breakup to the Overdrive, but I also get annoying hiss, tried 2 different noise gates with no luck,so I'd like to get the sound of both pedals with the Grunge alone if that's possible? I love the distortion sound the Bass Grunge makes, the tone control just doesn't do it for me even though it's close, the reason for the overdrive before it, my newer Bass Grunge i recently acquired sound a bit different from my older one. I've never done any electronics mod or anything before, and I'm not gonna start on my 20+ year old pedals, but i want to be as informed as possible before i have any work done to them, I'm stationed on Oahu, so there isn't a wide variety of repair guys here, i did get ahold of one local guy who said that replacing the pots could get better treble/clarity, I've read else where that replacing capacitors and/or resistors might be able to do this, all the big name repair guys stateside are pretty vague on their websites about what mods they have done, wont answer phone calls, or have super generic "Modification forms" for like tubescreamers etc, i can keep going but I'll stop now, I'm just frustrated, not gonna get rid of em, and need any info, thanks

You might wanna check the DIY section...
It depends on your amp and how you have the More set... The Bass Grunge has a specific Distortion sound but if you balance it with your amp or use the dry out with two amps it's cool... I found that it cleans up pretty well with the Bass Vol. knob so maybe just try backing off the input...

I run my amp flat more or less, all 3 electrics i own are passive, and all sound totally different, for what im trying, the "more"(blend ) is pretty low, just enough for some hair at the end of my notes, and the "zip"(tone) is cranked, im just wondering if it can be modded for more treble and clarity, ive been looking through this site, thanks either way

Re: DOD Bass Grunge mod Question
i guess even if i keep the DOD bass overdrive in front, i want to have the option of a cleaner dry signal on the grunge and more bite to the tone, so im using the grunge in a very subtle way, not for a full on distortion. A local amp repair guy thinks that changing the tone pot will do it, but I've others say to replace resistors and caps first, and swap pots as a last resort, i don't want the sound to change too much either, sorry im a total newbie on this stuff !!
