Rec me some cheapo bass pickups.

Post by doommeow »

Recently picked up a Vaccaro Hartke aluminum neck bass and the EMG actives it came with sound like ass - and not in any good humourous or sexolicious kinda way. What's out there on the cheap?

I know GFS sells bass pickups, but I haven't heard much about them and have had mixed experiences with their guitar stuff (and customer service). I'm even considering picking up a random $20 pair on ebay, likely made of asbestos and ground up babies, as the ones that came stock in my SX are surprisingly decent.

So:
- cheap (don't want to spend more than $100, ideally closer to $50), used is a-ok
- bass pickups. Something in the P and/or P/J variety. Entirely open to oddballs in the bass/J spot if it doesn't involve routing.
- :snax:

It's still pretty nice, though your cat is looking at it kinda suspiciously.

Unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations for cheap pickups.

I do suggest you get some replacement knobs. Those are ugly. The rest of the bass is superfine.

The SD Quarter Pound P pickup kicks all kinds of ass and I believe it's like $50.

Nice score, too. I wanted one of those.

Dunno if the Quarter Pound J is as good as the P, but JR.com is blowing it out for $29. They seem to be getting out of musical instrument stuff entirely, though, so slim picking for anything else.
