school me on mic stands

Post by leaves turn »

This is probably a stupid thread, because, well, it's a mic stand. What's there to know about mic stands? I dunno, I've never bought one before. That's why I'm asking.

I need something cheap and simple, yet flexible enough that I could use it while sitting or standing, or to mic my amp. Bedroom recording type stuff. Is there any reason why this wouldn't work?

Also, pop filters?

This is my mic stand. I got it from a supply room along with some mics and cables and shit when they were clearing out some old junk. I don't really know what to do with it. I don't want to lug it home, then bring it to my space, but it seems like a waste to throw it out. So here it sits in my office behind these kicky chairs.

And then we had a safety inspection and they told me it's a potential weapon so I have to get rid of it. So I'm going to put it in another store room. Eventually. I work in a psychiatric clinic so I guess they have a point but whatever..... The store room is at the other end of the unit. Like I have time to carry this thing around like an asshole.....

I have the same stand in your link. Works perfectly fine for rehearsal, recording, whatever. Probably not going to last 20 years, but for $25 it gets the job done.

I'm not really sure what this really has to do with the question, but it's a really great story.

tbqh I just wanted to show off my kicky chairs man....

One time I brought my circular saw in because we were building some stuff in the art group I facilitate, and everyone kept asking me if I was a serial killer. If I was a serial killer why would I leave the saw in my office? And wouldn't it be covered in blood?

Thanks we just had the floors done. I'm getting a new office at the end of the month so I'm glad I have something to remember it by.

I've got a Peavey stand that looks just like the one in the link, don't know why anyone would ever need anything more.
Sometimes I set it up Lemmy style just for shits & giggles.

Ok, I ordered the mic stand. And a cheapo mic windscreen. And Ghostbusters 1+2 to hit the $35 free shipping minimum.

An adjustable office chair is what I've been using for vocal recording for years. Doesn't work so well with an amp.

I have that mic stand too. It works better than hanging the mic from the floor joists in my dads basement by the cable, which is what I was doing before. I also never record anything so :idk:
