So...uh...I think I have a bad switch?

Post by theavondon »

Pedal I'm building bypasses, but then when it's switched on, the LED turns on, the transistors are getting voltage, but absolutely zero sound is emitted. As a part of caveman troubleshooting, I noticed that when I held a wire from the input to the output legs on the switch, there still was no sound, even though I was bypassing everything. Doesn't even elicit a buzz. Would this be a bad switch, you think? I have more switches, if so. But, figured I'd ask first.

Yeah that sounds like a bad switch. Every other part of the switch is wired correctly I presume?

Yeah, at least, it's wired exactly like how I've wired every other pedal I've built.

Replaced it, aaaaaaaaaand still the same thing. So, I'm gonna leave this for later (read: not 1 AM) and play some guitar.

Try removing the switch totally. Wire tr got signal directly into the circuit input and do the same for the output. Just make sure your circuit is working properly

Turns out, it was a broken potentiometer.

Pro tip: it's only the switch when you don't think it's the switch.

I went here to maybe post a troubleshooting thread, and realize I had this problem before...and holy shit it might be the pot. I'm building something kinda zany, and it's got a jfet boost going into a LM386. Both are getting voltage (at least, the JFET is on each leg), and all the connections are fine...but still no sound.

I'm just gonna wait until tomorrow like I did the last time, and then try again.
