Meathead Clone Issues

Post by Saturnine10 »

So i built myself a Meathead clone and it doesnt work.. Built several SHO clone and all worked perfectly on the first go around but this MH has been a PITA for some reason

I used IVARK's layout (much appreciated!) which was here -- I built the second down on the left side, just the normal MH version.

I built the circuit and then wired up the in/outs + ground/9v+ to my breadboard tester thing and no bueno. I was expecting a huge wall of sound but all i got was silence other than some signal noise when turning the 500k pot into the middle of the sweep -- total silence on either end of the sweep. I checked through everything with my MM and i have connection and power throughout the whole circuit so i'm kind of at a loss. I have some other transistors to swap in but the ones that were used are brand new! I'll post a picture of my board when i get home but i'd figure i'd at least ask if there are any general issues or problem areas with this circuit -- it seems simple enough but i still managed to screw it up :!!!:

Any help would be appreciated!

The most common problem I've seen with MH's... is transistor pinout. What did you use?

2N3904 for Q1 and BC184 for Q2 -- those are what is suggested to use in the other MH layout on the same site.

Here are some pics!

The 500klog is wired just like in the diagram, its not in the pics but its there.

...but the vero layout you used calls for bc107/bc108. No bother, the ones you have will work just as well. Thing is, 3904's pinout goes EBC, when looking at the front of them. Flip it around and you should get some meat :thumb:
